VX922 or?

Hello guys,

Before you laugh at me, I have to admit that I have been using a 15" LCD since I ever got into computers. Now I'm planning to purchase a "real" monitor. I want to spend no more than about $300, and preferably, I want a 19", as I don't want to suffer performance loss from moving from 1024x768 resolution to 1600x1200.

So is the VX922 a good choice? What are some other good 19" monitors in that $250-$310 price range?

Personally I think the 922 is about the best 19" gaming LCD available in its price range. I was really looking at it (the 924 also) along with the Samsung 940B and a few others, and the 922 is excellent.

However, I've pretty much decided to hold off and go with a 20.1" widescreen. I believe widescreen is the future and everyone seems to love gaming in widescreen.

I am also hesitant about the increased (1680x1050 in this case) resolution as you are, but that just means you need to upgrade your VC a little more often. I know you didn't have your 6800GT very long before you got that 7800GT, so I know you aren't one to hang on to a VC for a long time. 🙂

Ha, I wish I had had a 6800GT, but my VC before my 7800GT was a 9800 Pro.

Really? You kept your 9800 when you originally built the "waylayer"?

Anyways, your 7800 will definitely be straining to play the newest games at 1680x1050 with AA/AF. Of course you can always drop the AA/AF or play games at non-native resolutions. But from everything I've read, wide screen gaming is just far superior to regular 5:4 gaming.

I would seriously consider going 20" wide screen. I think you'll be happy you did.

The 9800Pro wwas used in my old computer with an AGP mobo, but before I got the GT in the "Waylayer", I temporarily used an X300 SE.

Yeah, I really want to go widescreen, but I'm scared about the potential upgrade hassle. I don't plan on upgrading this video card until at least December.
