Ok, so my monitor arrived this morning, plugged it all in, and if I use the DVI cable, it says "No Signal". If I use an adaptor and the VGA cablle, I get display, so Im trying to work out what this could be.

I know there are a few types of DVI, the video card out (for those who dont know) is the one with ALL pins, and the cable from the monitor has 2 sets of pins, and on the side, only the wide one (will find some pics to show you if you need more explanation)

So, do you think that because the cable doesnt have all the pins, its not working, or is it a busted cable, or busted input on the monitor?

EDIT: ok, heres a link http://www.datapro.net/techinfo/dvi_info.html#Page06 My vid card has DVI-I Dual link out and the cable is DVI-D singe link. any reason this wouldnt work?

Does your monitor have a button or something to tell it to switch to DVI input?

I plugged in my VX2025 using the DVI cable that came with the monitor, which IIRC, is the DVI-D single link you're using. It's plugged into an Evga 7900GT and it works just fine.

This monitor didn't require any sort of special set up for me, and I would expect the same for you too.

I think the input is defective on the monitor (or the output on the video card). Did you have an older monitor plugged into the video card using DVI? (i.e. do you know for sure the DVI works on your video card?) Do you have another computer/video card that has a DVI output so you can test the monitor on that to isolate the problem?

Just some ideas. I hope it is something simple.

well, considering im using the same output on the video card as I have been using for the past 2 months, and it works with the adaptor, the card seems ok.

just reading all the thinks, cheers WT. will let you know if it works.

Isn't the VX2025wm known for having a DVI problem?
If you try the VGA port on the monitor, does it work?
And it shouldn't matter which DVI port you use on the back of your video card.

The infamous DVI bug. I'd suggest just RMAing the monitor and hoping you'll get one that is made right. Of course, you could always return it for something else as well. My first one did that, but when I got the second one it was good.

Ok, to clarify further, YES it works with the VGA. Said that twice before, so hopefully now we can get that clear.

anyways, having tried all fixes short of the bootable CD one (havent the time right now), Im considering RMA. At the same time, theres something borked in my video subsytem anyways, suspect its software, so im going to blow away all drivers etc, and start from scratch. already removed FEAR, as that game was having real issues....

Will update later when I have had a chance to spend some more time looking at this.

Good luck to ya ... I really want to buy that LCD, but I'm very leery of this issue after reading these posts at least once a week here.

I received this same monitor several weeks ago with the same exact problem. I ended up RMA'ing as nothing seemed to work.

Then just last night, I had the exact same problem when I swapped VC's. I tried the simple fix and thankfully it worked great.

Make sure both the VGA and DVI cables are connected. Shut down your PC, unplug the monitor (the power cable) and leave unplugged for 10 seconds or more. Plug it back in and start the PC. It should have Digital back. Worked first time for me last night.

Now, since your has never worked, I would just RMA or actually just exchage it. After my initial problem, looking around the web showed me that this LCD is known to have DVI issues. I seriously thought about exchanging it, but decided to stay with the same model. After reading repeated threads about this issue and what happened to me last night, I regret my decision not to exchange it for a different model.

I personally would look elsewhere unless you can buy it local for an easy return. I know CC carried this monitor. Even so, If I had to do it over again, I would have picked a different model.

lets jsut double check I have this all right. I plug in both cables, turn my computer on. turn off computer, remove VGA cable, unplug monitor cable, wait for a while, plug power in, turn on computer, and voila. lets go try it.

I felt the exact same way after I had my problem. Always read this was a very good choice, then after I get it and it would not work on DVI, I easily found a bunch of threads about this exact issue.

Any chance you can exchange it for a different brand?

could do I guess, but will give RMA a try. I mean, apart from this issue, the monitor is nice, I like it.

However, if the new one also doesnt work, what should I get instead?

Personally, I'd get the LG 204WT from CC. It's a very nice monitor and by getting it a CC, you can easily return it if you're not happy as they have 14-day free return policy.

Either way, I've now learned that any LCD monitor I buy will most likely come from a B&M store just in case it needs to be returned/replaced.

Well, Thats not very easy here in New Zealand. there are very few decent stores around here. I can think of 3 actual stores that I could go to, maybe 4. But if this one doesnt work, thats what Ill try.

Oops, fell into the trap of thinking everyone on this forum is here in the US again. Sorry about that.

I still think buying retail is a good idea.

Dont worry about it, its easy to think, and really, its not like I put it in my sig or anything that im not....

I think I might start looking more at buying retail for these purchses, even though it does cost more.

@Kakumba:
I have your monitor, and it works just fine with my DVI cable. If you haven't tried different DVI ports and rebooting the system so the card rescans for new monitors, RMA it. Believe me, the monitor is worth RMAing (as you should know from using the analog).

just an update: thanks for the help. I ended up being asked by my supplier to try the DVI recover, and that fixed it. Im sure you all know just how happy I feel, youve probably all had the same feeling at least once....

Thanks again WT for the link, I say go for this monitor, unless you find another one thats actually better. If you do get this problem, the DVI recover is quick and painless.
