First some background information... I have always used a trusty 17" CRT at 1024x768. The one I have now isn't good by any means and any higher resolution hurts my eyes from the low refresh rate. When I put this monitor side by side with other ones the colors are extremely muted, but on its own it is very easy to use all day - that's why I like it. However, my lack of desktop space has been aggrivating me more and more lately and it's time for a change. I've been holding off since I play a lot of WoW and I was worried my 9600XT wouldn't be able to make use of a high resolution LCD...until I turned it up to 1280x1024 with 6x AA and didn't take a single performance hit. (Hurray for CPU bottlenecks!)
Looking around these boards I've seen most people recommend the ViewSonic VX2025WM. It looks like VS has a $50 rebate program going on right now for this monitor. Is this the time to buy it? I was originally going to wait until I get my new computer some time after Conroe is released, but if now is the cheapest a monitor of this quality will get I'd rather just buy it now. I've seen one person recommend the LG L203WTX over the VS VX2025WM for better color quality. Can anyone comment on this? It would normally be out of my budget, but I can make an exception for a monitor that will far outlast my actual computer. One catch: I despise dead pixels. One dead pixel, no matter how hidden, is going to completely ruin my day. I'd gladly pay an extra 10-15% for a store or policy that allows me to return a monitor with just one. If someone knows of such a thing I'd be very grateful.
Thanks!
