VX2025WM: Pricing questions

First some background information... I have always used a trusty 17" CRT at 1024x768. The one I have now isn't good by any means and any higher resolution hurts my eyes from the low refresh rate. When I put this monitor side by side with other ones the colors are extremely muted, but on its own it is very easy to use all day - that's why I like it. However, my lack of desktop space has been aggrivating me more and more lately and it's time for a change. I've been holding off since I play a lot of WoW and I was worried my 9600XT wouldn't be able to make use of a high resolution LCD...until I turned it up to 1280x1024 with 6x AA and didn't take a single performance hit. (Hurray for CPU bottlenecks!)

Looking around these boards I've seen most people recommend the ViewSonic VX2025WM. It looks like VS has a $50 rebate program going on right now for this monitor. Is this the time to buy it? I was originally going to wait until I get my new computer some time after Conroe is released, but if now is the cheapest a monitor of this quality will get I'd rather just buy it now. I've seen one person recommend the LG L203WTX over the VS VX2025WM for better color quality. Can anyone comment on this? It would normally be out of my budget, but I can make an exception for a monitor that will far outlast my actual computer. One catch: I despise dead pixels. One dead pixel, no matter how hidden, is going to completely ruin my day. I'd gladly pay an extra 10-15% for a store or policy that allows me to return a monitor with just one. If someone knows of such a thing I'd be very grateful.

Thanks!

Awesome monitor and I have ZERO dead pixels. Most people are reporting no dead pixels as well. I choose to buy it from office depot when it was on sale, it was more than you can get it at newegg, but I didnt want to take a chance on the pixel thing. I submitted my rebate a month or so ago and still waiting on it. Personally, I'd take advantage of the low price and rebate now when you can. If I had to do it again, I'd also go ahead and get it cheaper online because of the number of people reporting no dead pixels with it.

Scratch the rebate deal. I didn't see that it's only with the purchase of a new computer. Still... Is this monitor going to drop in price any time soon?

I wouldn't get the L203WTX because its a TN panel. Which means rather limited viewing angle. The VX2025WM has a P-MVA panel in it which has much wider viewing angles. So if it were me I would go with the Viewsonic.

Awesome. There's one nearby where I could try it out just to make sure. Now it's just a question of is now the time to buy. Does anyone believe the price will drop significantly in the next few months?

I will be going down to check it out at my local office max. I will be back in about 8 or so hours, and will give you my impressions.

The price has been dropping as of late, I remember when it was $350 at the egg, and now it is down to ~$335.

I just recieved mine from Buy.com yesterday. I paid $349 for it, and it has a $50 MIR, so I figured for $300 it couldn't be beaten. So far, I am very impressed with it. It has no color banding (unlike my Dell 2007WFP), and colors seem to be pretty accurate. I am using the sRGB color setting, which seems to offer the best color choice. I haven't had a chance to do much gaming outside of BF2, but so far it seems to be just as good as everyone says. I honestly think that now would be a good time to buy. Everything gets cheaper over time, but once you hook it up you will be greatly surprised how nice it really it.
