You wanna know what I got out of this commercial?

"If you buy a VW, don't cross the Mexican border, because Mexican customs will completely destroy your car because VW incorporated drug storage compartments in every panel."

umm WTF are you talking about

VW's website doesn't have the commercial on it, but here's the basic synopsis:

Dude driving a passat pulls up to customs checkpoint. They begin inspection, make him get out of the car, end up going through all these fscking cubbyholes and sh!t, find umbrella in door sill, bust out the power tools and begin ACTUALLY DISMANTLING THE CAR.

All the while, the driver is sitting in a chair looking all smug and happy. wtf?

That's because they're likely to put it back together better than it started. 😀

here's an idea. instead of intruding into cabin or trunk space to make room for "cubbies," either make the actual storage space bigger to begin with, or make those cubbies accessible from the cabin. the one that blows my mind the is the fvcking umbrella cubby that you get to by opening the door and fishing around on the edge of it. fvck that. just make the hole on the INSIDE the of the car, so people can put anything they want in it, without having to open the door and... gasp... get their asses all wet before they can get their umbrella. stupid fvcking gimmicky VW. teenage girls and men of non-hetero status never fail to fall for that kind of stuff, though, so i guess they do have a consumer base.

edit: my 91 accord has that door cubby accessible from the inside. you can stuff huge amounts of crap into it. it also has practically invisible slot pockets that go inside the back cushions of the rear seats that are far better drug storage than anything the passat has, anyway. you can stuff your entire wallet into one with no fuss, and no one would ever no it was there.

I like my passat...and fit neither of those groups.

Now if you are talking about the new beetle, I understand.

it is a good add, but just like everyone else i'd rather have my umbrella inside my car. min sits between my seat and my door, wedged by the B pillar.

LOL.. Mexicans have a reputation as being good workers.

i hate the new passat commercials. they show - as low as $22,500 or whatever - in really small print at the bottom for a few seconds it shows, as seen here for $37k

Is that why you hate the commercial? If so you probably hate every car commercial...ever.

there is still a door pocket to keep your stuff, the umbrella cubby is made for a umbrella, the idea came from a bently i believe. its a nice idea. Its prolly one of those things you dont' think is a good idea till u use it. i would love a umbrella cubby built in to the door where space is wasted anyways.

$15k is a pretty big stretch on the worst european sedan imported to America.
