VW/Audi reliability is looking pretty bad...

I will NEVER EVER EVER buy another VW product. The 2000 VW Golf was the biggest POS of a car I ever owned, heck 1996 Hyundai Accent did not give me as many troubles..

Wife's 02' TDI Golf has had 0 problems.

Of course it doesn't have an ignition system either... I understand VW has agreed to replace all of them anyway.

I've heard that the TDIs are supposed to be pretty reliable. Of course, VW's general reliability rating seems to be going into the crapper along with their dealer service. I've heard so many horror stories from surfing the forums at VWVortex that it's turned me off on considering a VW for my next car. I still have to admit that the Golf R32 is one nice looking car....

I swear to God Audi has the strangest problems...and the WORST responses to customer complaints!

Jigga's uncle (circa 1980s): Hello? Audi? I'm calling to tell you that my accelerator pedal got stuck AGAIN (after dealer said he fixed it) and my Audi 5000 just plowed into my garage door! :|

Audi's response: "Dumb American driver. You don't know how to handle powerful sports car. No comp for you!"

Audi/VW = Electrical probs

Both of the GTI's I've owned had mysterious electrical probs that even the dealer couldn't figger out. Such is the joy of German Engineering.

Too bad, because otherwise I loved both cars.

The engine mechanicals and drivetrains are good, and pretty much always have been, but they have always been plagued with a host of electrical glitches and other minor problems, like bad power windows (hell, the manual windows on my both of my mom's Rabbits gave us problems), cheap trim, rattles, etc., that make ownership less than a joy for those who simply want reliable, low maintenance transportation.

Just the opposite, instead of working 8A-8P, my job is like real people have 7:30-4:00, M-F, after 17 years, am still excited about getting holidays off & being around every evening...

I wake up @ ~5:am & neff now

Back on topic, though, I've had 2 diesel VW's & really love them, no ingintion system to keep tuned up & freaking awesome MPG.

VW's talking about a TDI Passat for the states this fall, & I want one bad, too bad I just bought a pickup, don't think I can swing a 4th auto right now

You know what killed GM? It wasn't engines that fell apart or major mechanical problems it was interiors that fell apart and power windows that broke and computers that died. It's the repeated failure of small irritating items that are expensive to fix that drive people to other brands.

The car should have never been restarted. In addition, what's wrong with carrying a fire extinguisher? I have one in my car.

This is why you bridge the gap from a Normal person, to a Die Hard horn tootin'-audi fan guy... i'd be willing to bet 95% of society sees no need for a fire extinguisher in their car... it's unreasonable to expect my girlfriend to open the hood of her burning car, i wouldn't want her to.. she's retarded, fire extinguisher or not she'd be burned to a crisp...

blame it on the car owner, go right ahead.. it's AUTOMATICALLY his fault that his car cought fire... and HE's the moron for not playing fireman..

gotta draw the line somewhere... i don't, and probably won't, have a fire extinguisher in my car.

is it a good idea? no doubt. Am I going to shell out gas money for one? no. i'd rather my car just burn to the ground, while I beat feet in the opposite direction.

N8, I'm not saying you're a Die Hard horn tootin' Audi fan.. but you have to agree with his post. Besides, the point was that Audi won't even recognize his issue or ackowledge the probelm, depsite this being the biggest fiasco in VW/Audi reliability/service yet.

also, it's not unreasonable to have a fire extinguisher in your car.

and fyi, vw/audi doesnt make the ignition coils in their cars
