well what ever it means its fun to hit at 4500 rpm :D

It's even more fun to have it trip at just over three grand. ;)

I don't know...having it come on at 6000 is pretty fun too ;)

A lot of my friends and people that I spoke of claim that Honda has better engines than Toyota because of the VTEC!! is this true?

Do these friends of yours have a single working brain cell between them?

Well one of them has a 2001 Prelude, so I guess they're all Honda fanboys.

See, to me, VTEC is nothing out of the ordinary. Wow, your engine has variable valve timing...ooooh, I'm impressed. It's not like it has a turbo or anything. Trust me. I've driven the RSX-S which I'm reasonably sure this has VTEC...and possibly other acronyms...I didn't notice anything extrordinary about that engine. Yes, it revs high...yes, it makes decent power in a fairly lightweight chassis...it still isn't very fast and many production cars can beat the crap out of it.

VTEC is like bragging that your engine has DOHC or fuel injection. Big freaking deal. Get back to me when your hitting 13's in the 1/4 at over 103mph stock. Then I might be impressed.

they both do the same thing. really, it's a non-issue though. just look at the HP and torque curves and go by that. who cares HOW it makes the power?

VVTi != VVTLi
VTEC != iVTEC

I'm not too familiar with Honda engines, but VVTi constantly varies valve timing (variable valve timing /intelligent). VVTLi is the same, but with 'lift' -- at ~6000rpm, you basically get 40 extra horsepower.

A little peakier than I'd like, but I'm sure it's still fun.. :)

It is impressive because you get great gas milage out of them.
I mean, you can drive the car normal when you want to and rev the engine like crazy when you want some speed......but get very good gas milage along the way.
Before these engines came along, didn't all the cars with any kind of powers get like <20 mpg ??

My car does not have a VTEC-esque engine and I get ~25 MPG along with 200HP and 265lbs/torque. Should be obvious it is a domestic car because I do have torque.

Also for comparison my brother had a Civic SI, I can not remember the year but it was the last year they shared the same frame as the 'normal' Civic - 1999 I think. Anyhow it had the entire iVTEC thing going on and it was a fun ride. It got stolen and stripped after a few months and he got a V6 Accord coupe to replace it. Even though the Accord did not have a "VTEC" engine it gets roughly the same MPG and has more power than the four banger VTEC SI.

The VTEC type engines are good engines, however you guys appear to think that only the I4 VTEC-esque engines are the ones that evolved. Most V6s today have gas mileages similar to those I4s and the V6s put out more power; those engines evolved too.

3.5L SOHC V6 - 255hp/250tq. 20/28mpg

The V6's evolve too.
