Here's what to do:

1. Order item 389583 here
http://www.staples.com/Catalog/Browse/SKU.asp?BCFlag=False&PageType=1&SKU=389583
2. Print the rebate form for $20 back.
3. Order item 642769 (clips) to kick the price over $50 from here:
http://www.staples.com/Catalog/Browse/SKU.asp?BCFlag=False&PageType=1&SKU=642769
4. Print the rebate form for $1 back.
6. Check out
7. [delted]

Total after rebates $10.88.

Now don't tell me that Staples rebates suck. We all know that.

Two questions, what is the "you know what" coupon and where do I find it?

And when you say that the signal quality is so-so are you referring to the phone or the walmart headset?

Thanks

I've had one of these phones for well over a year, and it's worked perfectly ever since the day I got it. At the same time, my other cordless phones have either died or have had various problems. Good deal on the 918.

I bought this the last time this deal came around. It is a great phone for reasonably close distances. I love the speaker phone feature on the handset. Great for when you are waiting on hold. Highly worth the $10.

This is the same phone that Onvia.com had for 10 bucks each a while back, no rebater or anything.

Still a great phone, even if you have to wait for the rebate.

Just tried the -$20 coupon (07/09/2000 10:10 PM) and got the error: "coupon expired". Anyone else get this?

Will the $20 rebate definitely be accepted, considering the fact that the full price was not actually paid for the phone (due to the other $20 off)?

Thanks

MysteryE: look better on techbargains, there are other coupons that are not expired.

DJBruin: yes, the mail-in rebate does not count towards the purchase price, which will be over $50 before the coupons, so you can use it.

BTW, the final price will actually be $11.54, considering $0.66 for the stamps ;)

As for the rebate on the clips, I let you decide whether it's better $0.33 now or $1 in three months ;)

How come in the rebate form it says it has a digital answering machine and caller id, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't?

Yea, the rabate doesn't quite match up in the description. The 918 phone looks to be the same one offered for 10 bucks by Onvia a while back. A good phone for 10 bucks.

Yeah, I had noticed that too. I believe the description on the rebate form is wrong. The sku number matches though, so i think the rebate is valid. Maybe we should call CS to make sure...

Question: I looked at the rebate form and it said:

"Rebate applies to the purchase of V-Tech Phone w/ Caller ID (sku #389583) at Staples stores only.... Offer not valid with any other rebates, offers or promotions."

If I read this correctly, it means that you can't get the rebate if you order online, and you can't get the rebate if you use the coupon. Am I missing something or do I just not understand the situation?

I already have a 918 from Onvia awhile back, but need another phone for my aptmnt. Would there be a problem with having two 918's so close to each other? I've run into interference problems with different 900 Mhz models before, would it be much worse with two phones of the same model? Thanks.

Wait does anyone know if the rebate works WITH the coupon? I tried this once and I never received my rebate because I used a coupon, meaning I didn't pay full price. I think they're looking for customers to pay full price ... then they'll give you the rebate. Otherwise, they won't because they're not that stupid.

You can goto track your rebate at staples homepage,
I just did that and they said my request was accepted on June 30, the rebate is still in processing, the check will be mail out no later than July 24.
good luck.

Yoshi2000: thanks for the link. Funny that it has only odd features...

Niege: good question. I'll call the rebate center as soon as I hang up with the computer.

BTW, am I the only one that cannot reply to messages on the forum using Netscape 4.73? I I had to switch to M$-IE to reply. Netscape kept bringing me back to the login page. And, yes, I did login correctly.

An interesting coincidence. I received my $20.00 rebate from the Onvia phone today. I made $10.00 and received a phone on the deal. Definitely a great deal.

Niege: thinking about it, you need to send only the packing slip, which doesn't show the price you paid for it, so they have no way of telling you used the coupon, unless they have access to the sale database, and I doubt the reabate center does.

Paggio: I just got my phone today and the packing slip does show the price I paid for it, including mention of the coupon.

BTW, the phone I actually got is called the 918ADX, as opposed to the 918 which I ordered and is listed on the rebate form. Does this or the fact that the description on the rebate form is not correct bother you guys at all? I called up the rebate center and staples.com and nobody could really clear it up for me.

Cheap VTECHs are some of the greatest deals I've seen in phones. I picked up a couple 900MHz some time ago from Best Buy wen they were selling for like $20. Works like a charm for over a year now, after numerous drops, bumps, etc. This outlasts most of my expensive-as-heck AT&T and Lucent phones. If you want a bargain on good cordless phones you can't beat these guys.
