No there is not. Without vsync the image will never line up with the monitors refresh and there will always be a tear on the screen, or maybe more than one depending on the fps of the game (unless you are below 30 fps, then you might see screens without tears but then you have a different problem).

You have a simple choice really, inconsistent performance with vsync for sub 60 fps games or more consistent performance with tearing and the unsmooth effect it causes. Neither is good but unless you go and buy a gsync monitor you are struck with it. Gsync solves this completely and monitors are available now.

I always play with it off, and don't know what that tearing people mention is. Maybe it's a FPS genre issue and since I don't play FPS I never see it (and yet I see the option in almost every game I install)

Sensitivity to it differs from person to person (just like the annoyance of "jaggies" with AA on vs off, etc). I'm the opposite, can't stand any tearing and always leave VSync on.

PS: if you really don't know what screen tearing is, it looks like this:-

You'll see it when you have a rig capable of pumping more than 20 FPS.

There the 3D Vision 2 monitors (like the Benq XL2411T) that are capable of 144hz and they are really good gaming monitors. They do decrease the visibility of tearing because of the shorter time they are on the screen, but it doesn't eliminate the problem. The only way to remove both the stutter of vsync and the tears of vsync off is gsync. Gsync monitors are also 144hz and offer the low persistence mode, so they should really be considered the next upgrade after the 3D vision 2 monitors, they are basically everything those are + the gsync mode.

I wouldn't buy a Gsync monitor because of the TN panel.
What about the tv's ? Are they all limited to 50 or 60Hz ?

the key component you need to look for on a ghigh framerate tv is the connectors

you can have a 120 hz tv that can only accept 60 hz through the hdmi

like mine

No.

Tearing is inherent problem with the way we currently render and display, Vsync was designed specifically to fix this issue but comes with several downsides.

You might want to look into Gsync which is a technology by Nvidia to address the issues with Vsync, it's a hardware based fix though, which requires a new monitor.

I would like to have a Gsync monitor, but all of them are TN panel.
So i better get a lcd / led tv / but like i said, it should be not limited by 60Hz like the monitor i have now.

well there are not a lot of tvs with displayport

so either you need dvi or hdmi 1.4 or 2.0

usually i think the 3d tvs can support 1080p at 120 hz or more
