VPN Help - router

Hi. I currently have a Linksys BEFW11S4 v2.0 (very old). It is going out because my wife can't even connect wirelessly in the next room over...but anyways... I am looking to create a VPN via XP in order to have friends connect to my network and share files and play games. I have looked at some D-Link routers as of late. They are as follows:

D-Link DI-624
D-Link DWL-926

I was running into a problem with my current router. It would error out with an error code of 800 when someone would try to connect. The other person then created a VPN the same way and I was able to connect successfully. He does not have a router...PC plugged straight into the cable modem.

"Example: Linksys WRV54G - Wireless-G VPN Broadband Router." FYI...your link on your "VPN - Virtual Private Networks for small settings" page doesn't work anymore...

If I had something like that, why would I need a "cheapo" access point behind it?

Yeah the Linksys is a combo VPN End Point and Wireless.

When it came out there was No WPA support, so if you do not care about WPA (or if Linksys fixed it) It is a good choice.

Note: The VPN page is working from my system might be a temp Glitch.
