Hi,

I am trying to access some on campus linux boxes to run some programs. i can do this through windows by running a vpn, hummingbird exceed, and ssh. what i would like to do is run a vpn through my linux box straight to the remote computers. I asked IT and they said only their windows variant VPN program can get in. Is this true or would a linux VPN be able to get through as well? I guess what im really asking is, does IT approve certain VPN programs, or do they just approve VPN access as a whole (ie, if you can use one VPN program, you can use them all)

It really depends on what product they are using to support VPN connectivity. So the simple answer would be, no you can't just use any VPN client (IPSec, etc) to access their network.
