VPN for Windows 7

I've looked through the forums and used the search function and can't get any results about a VPN. I was wondering if there is an article anywhere on the site about setting up and using a VPN?

I've looked all over the internet trying to find something and all I have came across is LogMeIn Hamachi, which is not that good at all for a VPN because it still shows IP info. Not willing to pay for one either..such as HideMyAss.

Just really lost on what to do to get started going in the right direction of doing this because I really want a VPN/proxy. Sorry if this is not the correct forum to post this in?...and if it's not, can I please know where to take this subject?

What exactly do you want to accomplish with the VPN? You mention showing your IP. A VPN connection is not designed or intended to hide your IP address or your activity online. A VPN is primarily used to allow remote users to access a business (or home) network while not physically at the same location as the network. It is also intended to encrypt traffic between the two end points so that outside parties cannot intercept any of your data, specifically if that data contains confidential or sensitive information.

Some people do use 'anonymous' VPN services to try to hide their activities online, but that's a feature of the proxy service, and the VPN is just the method that is used to connect to the proxy server.

Well, I guess I'm looking for something that will do what a VPN and a proxy will do. Pretty much encrypt and hide IP. I know that no matter what, ISP's know your IP and wheres it's going, but I'm looking for something my IP can connect to and no further information is known after it connects to the VPN/Proxy.

I would want to be able to connect to something hosted by my PC that is encrypted and hidden. I just don't know where to start to get something like that up and running? I have come across others using openVPN with some sort of proxy software. Pretty lost on the whole subject trying to figure out whats out there to use and set it up.

The help and info I'm looking for seems pretty tedious for others to respond/help seems like a very annoying walk through on what to do. Any info can help really..

Also, I am not using a wireless router...will the set up you linked shady_sawyer still work with a wired router? I am using http://www.dlink.com/us/en/home-solutions/connect/routers/dir-645-wireless-n-home-router-1000 But I do not use it for its wireless...just straight wired from the modem.
