I see that the L90D+ has a brighteness of 300 cd/m2 while the vp930b has 250 cd/m2. While that make a big difference?
 
I am not sure if either model reaches their stated brightness levels, but if either of them reach 250, thats fine. Niether is necessarily excessive in brightness, thats all you need to worry about.
but the main focus should be black levels. those should be stated in reviews at places like tomshardware
but I have heard many a problem with the L90D+, so you might try and stay away from that model.
 
crazy crazy.... this is a guess.... atleast 100,000:1 (likely much higher, possibly up to 1,000,000,000:1 on good models) for contrast, and probably a brightness around 200-250nits.

what aids the brightness ratio for CRT's is the blackness level. Its true black, likely .001 or something to that nature (again a guess), whereas a 'good' LCD goes down to .35, which is a huge difference.

my guesses come from the idea that the new/upcoming SED technology shares similar numbers, and I believe is supposed to equal CRTs, or at least truely rival them.
 
An Iiyama AG CRT reached 10,000:1 properly calibrated, otherwise not much more. Any of them I've seen, even $5000 CRTs, still only reach 100 cd/m² of luminance at 9300K, 80 cd/m² at 6500K, and 60 cd/m² at 3500K. So LCDs win in terms of brightness, and CRTs produce a deeper black. Honestly if I put a CRT next to an LCD and made it display black in the middle, I would not notice. It's the edges on the LCD that really have the trouble because of the backlight uniformity. The middle of my LCD is pitch black. The LCDs will hold up better in a lot of ambient light, while CRTs will be good from normal down to total darkness.

SEDs are already way past CRTs.
400 cd./m² at white level and 0.004 cd./m² at black and they display more color gamut. I could go on and on about how much better they are. Definitely something to buy over any other display technology.

What sounds better spec wise : 1000:1 contrast and 250 cd/m2 brighteness or 700:1 Contrast and 300 cd/m2 brighteness?
 
I think you'll definitely be happier with the VP930b not only for the white/black levels but the color accuracy and speed.

ahh... so the SED's have a better black level than CRT's? Thats amazing. I believe the black level for the SED techdemo unit was .003nits, with a brightness of 300nits I believe, could have been 250nits. Lemme look it up. ooo 400nit. Kinda bright, but oh well. Thats an extremely deep black.
well, calcutions put an 80nit CRT (guess and check lol) with .008nits for the black level, at a 10,000:1 contrast. So its just the sharp rise in brightness that helped out.

destrekor: Not completely sure about the SEDs but I believe they have more luminance. No need for a shadow mask or aperture grille.
 
Don't forget about the X light leakage!

But don't worry about it, I have the VP930b, you don't see it. You only see it at factory defaults and thats WAY TOO bright, once you turn it down, you don't even notice it and you only notice it if you look really hard at the coners on a black screen.

EDIT: It's a nice monitor. No ghosting at all, well it's there, it's there on all LCD monitors, I just cant see it and I've been using a CRT my whole life (a good one too, I though ghosting would be noticable but its not).
 
The L90D+ is a great LCD if you're on a budget. But the Viewsonic is a MUCH higher quality LCD if you don't mind spending the extra $$.

I used a couple L90D+'s in builds for friends. We deployed about 60 VP930b's at work. Build quality on the VS is WAAAAY better.
 
Those two monitors arent even comparable, the viewsonic wins hands down. If you can afford it then get it, but if you were just looking at the L90D+ and decided to compare it to one of the best 19" out there just too see how it fairs, then i would suggest the samsung 940b for a great cheap TN.
 
Wow according to that review the vp930b did pretty bad :-( It got 2 stars out of 5. Crap :-( Mine says its being deliveryed today. But I didn't think fedex deliverys on the weekend. I only live about a 1/2 mile from fedex depot and zipzoomfly. Now I'm concerned, that review certainly was not good. They basicly said that the vp191b was better hands down :-(
 
Trust me, the VP930b is a great monitor. I have no idea how it could get a 2 out of 5. The only difference between the 930b and the 191b is the 191b had slightly better responce time. (when I mean slightly I mean ~1-2ms faster which you won't even notice).
Now there is also more good stuff about the 930b. It has better accuracy of colors than the 191b, plus the overdrive is even more discrete.
Plus one of the reseaons it got a low score was because of the price. That was in france, everything is cheaper in america so that answeres that.

It's a great monitor, i have one, you have nothing to worry about so tell us how it goes when you get it.
Just make sure to turn down the brightness and contrast as factory settings are WAY too high and bright. Also make sure to use dvi input and native resoulution and then you will be happy.

I think they were on crack. They rated subpar TNs higher, they probably just made a mistake. Never trust the French. 😉 Tom's Hardware Guide gave it an excellent rating.

Toms Hardware Review

Much better rating, they said that it was better except for the slightly slower response time, but thats like ~1-3ms so that really shouldnt matter.

I can't tell, I just went from a CRT that I've been using for 5 years. I thought I'd see ghosting but I didn't so if you game/watch movies then you'll be happy.

If you do anything else on it (like watch some pr0n 😉 ) then you will still be a very happy person.
 
Cool than my pr0n will look great on it 🙂 That's the only reason I'm buying it. You know how those pr0n videos are, I need a fast response time for that 🙂
 
I am planning on picking up a VP930b or ordering it today. 😉 I rate it first in my LCD Buyer's Guide for 19" gaming.
