Voting

How do I vote? There's an upcoming gubernatorial race coming up in Texas. I remembered registering to vote when I got my 18 year old licensed renewed, but I haven't received any information for it (unless my parents forgot to forward it to me). So do I just show up at the polling stations or what?

I'm not sure if I registered for my home address or college address? If I did my home address, I'd have to go back to Harris rather than Brazos right?

you may have to re-register if you haven't voted within four years of when you registered

most counties will purge you if you miss a presidential election or four years, so you better check and re-register if needed

txrandom, if Harris county is where you registered and still want to vote - You can come back to Harris county to your polling place to vote or you can vote by mail.

If you want to vote in Brazos county, you must re-register to vote in Brazos county by October 10th. From the link in the previous post:

"If you moved to a new county, you must re-register in your new county of residence by October 10, 2006 to be eligible to vote in the November 7, 2006 General Election. If you miss this deadline, you may be eligible to vote a "limited" ballot. A limited ballot is available only during the early voting period. The limited ballot application will also act as a voter registration application. Contact the county clerk or elections administrator in your new county for information. "With respect to election officials and others who often provide advice to students about certain residency issues for voter registration purposes, please inform a student that if they consider their parents address to be their permanent residence, they may use that address as their registration address. If they would like to register to vote at their college address, they may do so. However, students cannot be registered at both places. The general rule of thumb for election officials and those engaged in voter registration drives is that wherever the student claims residency, that is where they should be registered to vote."

Thanks, emailing my parents about whether I got anything in the mail, if I didn't I'll reregister at my new address.

My ballot shows up in the mail, I vote from home at my leisure with ample time to research all the issues and candidates, and then I mail my ballot back or drop it off before the deadline. All with a verifiable paper trail. Oregon has the best voting system in the world.

i still don't understand the fascination with a paper trail. paper has been proven unsecure and easy to fake/forge/cheat with in thousands of elections through history. yet, for some reason, everyone is enamored with the paper trail.

and what happens when the paper recount doesn't match up with the official result?

anyway, for the OP, you should be doing about everything you can to get out of brazos county, anyway.
