I'm still waiting for any Governer to get a law passed making wearing a mask by law enforcement illegal absent medical reasons.
And SCOTUS will say ICE, etc. are immune to such orders. Supremacy clause and all that.
It'll help hold the locals accountable, but they weren't the bulk of the problem were they?

And if it did apply to local and state LEO....
Well, congratulations. While in proximity of ICE you are now deputized as a temporary federal agent. Put the mask on and SCOTUS will have your back.
But hey, at least we'd force them to jump through those hoops. More than nothing. And each step builds resistance.

Along with a legally enforced requirement(?) that each and every LEO that confronts a citizen must provide their ID on demand that doesn't include an immediate beating or being sprayed thereafter.

No matter how much you say it, national divorce is never going to happen in a way that could ever be easy and not result in mass suffering and violence. And it's pretty gross to be calling for it when you live in NYC and think these things won't happen to you.
Even if we did somehow split the country down the middle. Dems on the left side, Repubs on the right side. Eventually the Repubs would just build a huge army and take over the left side of the country via violence. After a decade or so id imagine.

All these extreme ideas. Just let the country suffer under 20+ years of Republican "solutions".

We got Regan because the nearly unbroken streak of liberalism from the end of WW2 thru stagflation burned voters.

We got Trump because of the almost unbroken streak of neo liberal and neo conservatives from the end of Bush 1 thru Obama wasn't solving problems anymore.

I doubt it will even take that long for even supposedly conservative voters to get burned by MAGA's nativist bullshit and start looking for new solutions. Next 3 years even.

I’m not sure where to put this but I see the end of CRA as a victim of citizens united and corporate monied interests among other things.

But it appears Montana might have a solution and one that can be used in every state.

Corporations have only the powers that states give them—no more. States stopped being choosy about the powers they granted to their corporations in the mid-1800s. But every single state retained the authority to be as choosy as they like. Every single state retains the authority to decide to no longer grant its corporations the power to spend in politics.

No state has exercised its clear power to exclude political spending from the powers it grants its corporations. “Why not?” asks University of Chicago law professor Vincent S.J. Buccola. “One possibility is that the average legislator thinks cases such as Citizens United and Hobby Lobby were sensibly decided. This might be true—it is unlikely—but in any event it is uninteresting. Another possibility is that legislators do not know their own legislative authority. If so, maybe they will soon discover it.”

The Montana Plan, which was announced on June 18 (press release here; video here), is an attempt to ignite that discovery.

Under the Plan, Montana would no longer grant its corporations the power to spend money in politics. And because out-of-state corporations can only exercise the powers that domestic corporations can exercise, it would also remove political spending power from every out-of-state corporation that operates in Montana.

No, SCOTUS has played a game of Republicans can do stuff that is illegal and Democrats can't. If you think SCOTUS wouldn't stop democratic governors from doing what the president is doing, then I have a bridge to sell you.

And there is pushback for those with eyes to see. It also takes time for opinions and actions to percolate. A violent pushback isn't good though and gives Miller and team exactly what they want. And the Federal government is doing itself no favors when they are "accidentally" gasing local police and showing itself violently reacting to innocuous protest. This is a battle for perception.
Therein lies the problem. I would never play a game of chicken with Repubs, because they will always outdo us in lawfare, criminality, lack of ethics and gun violence.

Take extreme gerrymandering for example. CA Prop 50 is being done only as a reaction to Texas, and look at how much effort and money it takes to try to achieve in one blue state. Meanwhile, a snap of the finger and the stroke of a pen and it's a done deal in TX, MO and other red states.

Quite frankly, I don't blame the @MrSquished of our side who basically give up and say it's time to flee to Europe, or wherever will take us. No, that doesn't mean I've already given up. I just feel we haven't actually hit rock bottom yet.

But I agree with you; our job here isn't to give Trump any excuses to invoke the Insurrection Act, which he's been dying to do since term 1.

I'll take irrational optimism for $1000, Alex.

Democratic Governers need to ratchet up the divorce. Trump says gang affiliation and race are probable cause for arrest so here is what they should do.

Use their National Guard and start snatching Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, 3%ers and any other white nationalist group members off the streets and send to undisclosed locations. There is even more of a rationale for it because those groups actually kill people.
All those people are working for ICE now. o_O

Even more reason to divide the country up forever.

What's the point of laws when they clearly don't obey them and calvinball em.

For a country to exist under the rule of laws.. the laws have to respected and obeyed!

If they're not.. there's no point to having the country!

Who is going to support red state welfare? I doubt Team Treason would have any intention of giving up any amount of control for the sake of peace.

Isnt ng and the 2nd exactly for this situation? Trump told the trop brass they were to train on American cities(at the idiotic Hegseth meet).... Effectively challenging them on their oath to defend from foreign AND domestic.

Let NG round ICE up and detain them, let Trump order the generals to go in, and see how the chips fall? Isnt it better to force the hand than to suffer a slow death?

- Maybe.

There is a lot of shrieking but very little practical solution or remedy here (or anywhere). Just a lot of fantasizing about "general strikes" and "fix education" and stuff.

We're really just in an observe and report mode right now. All that can really be done about anything at the moment.

Things are getting worse but Trump hasn't really "hurt the right people" yet to see a real sea change in the general population and we have to accept that this simply may never happen or have to wait until things get bad enough for the average Joe that he can no longer ignore it or blame Biden.

Worse still, the Dems as a party are still lead by old low T fossiles who refuse to make room for the more energetic and hotheaded younger gen. They seem to have at least found one nut with the Government shutdown, but their messaging around it is still to sloppy and cerebral.

Anyhow, things don't look great at the moment. The time to stop Trump was at the ballot box in 2024 and unfortunately America butt fucked the pooch on that one.

Each states National Guard can carry out the deed. Just because someone is ICE does not make them immune from arrest for crime. Saw an ICE brownshirt stopped for DUI and he tried to racially profile the cop
I apologize there was a heavy dose of sarcasm in there along with some possible probability.
EDIT: Mainly just making a wisecrack of the situation. Trying to keep humor alive.
