voting exclusive to property owners? (again?)

It really pisses me off when renters and such who dont pay property taxes pass bond initiatives that raise property taxes. This happened in my area not that long ago. they are completely unaffected negatlvely by it. they pay none of the upfronts, and reap the benifits.






Also, it pisses me off that every year the damn schools have new bond initiatives that will raise property taxes again. these are 20 year bonds, i think. and every voting year 3 or 4 bond initiatives pass (a couple get rejected). And is there ANY improvement in the schools? hell no.

renters sign a contract for a certain term for a certain price.

it cuts down on the owners profit margin.

at least for the time being. till the time comes to renegotiate the contract.

Not if Property Owners were the only ones who voted. That would be Feudalism, but I'll assume you meant "only under certain circumstances, such as when Property Taxes were an issue.

I'm a landlord and don't have a problem with the renter thing.

I simply adust future rents accordingly.

i dont think you understand what feudalism is.

feudalism is a social structure. commoners, nobility, royalty, one reports to the other who reports to the other.


NOONE gets voting rights in feudalism, because the king's statement goes.

what i am referring to is a republic where only property owners (as people who stand to lose something) vote. that is in no way a feudalistic society.

Nope, Feudalism is Land Owners(Lords, Nobility, etc) vs non-Land Owners(Serfs). The Serfs were basically slaves of their Feudal Lords. The Feudal Lords provided "protection" from Bandits and Raiders(usually the Mercenary Force of another Feudal Lord).

The idea of only wanting only property owner to vote is to make sure voters do have a stack in the system. I would say this would not be a broad enough spectrum of people as there are far more taxes than property taxes.

However there are a large amount of people that do not pay tax and also get to vote. This is dangerous because people not paying taxes can vote themselves more of the treasury without actually having to carry any of the financial burden of goverment.

A flat tax for all, would be the quickest way to reform goverment.

That's because you aren't paying for ANY school improvements, you're paying entirely for administrative costs, cola raises, and infrastructure buffers. Until they reform/eradicate upper management in the school systems you'll continue to pay more and more of your meger salary so that administrators can move their families to better school districts.

they also pass school building initiatives (but not improvement initiatives) so that it takes no students from my high school, and puts them in the most expensive areas of this district. (where the district people's kids will go to school.

2 years ago, a school was opened in my district (the 4th highschool). it took no student population from my high school (which is at 2-3 times it's reccommended capacity) and took them from the wealthier areas of the district. so wealthy parents get wealthy children into wealthy schools, and mine gets screwed.

good thing i graduated already, and good thing i'm leaving this god-forsaken state. i hate california.

yeap. my wife's parents are in there 60's and they are thinking of saleing there house and moving out of state. they bought the place like 20 years ago and have continued to keep it up. but now that there house is worth so much there taxes are outrageous! they paid like 35k for the house and put in some to keep it up and expand it. But now the taxes are 6k a year! they cant afford that. its nuts.

the family has lived on that property for well over a 100 years. but now they may be forced to move because property taxes are to high.
