was there ever a time when people went to the polls and said to themselves "damn, i gotta choose between two great candidates. who do i choose?" the sentiment nowdays seems to be "lessee, who sucks less..."
No. I go to the polls knowing full well who I'm voting for. It's not a matter of who "sucks" less. They're all politicians and all spread it thick. You just have to be able to read through all of that. Voting for someone isn't something you decide that morning. If you're a serious voter, you follow the campaign months before voting day. I vote for the person who's beliefs and plans follows my beliefs, and where I think the country should head. At least as close as possible.
Yeah, almost every time I've voted in a local election. Even when it comes to certain state offices, I have to really sit down and think about who would be better for the job. National politics is not all there is.
I'd like to point out that there are more than two candidates. If you don't want to vote for Bush or Gore, look up Ralph Nader or Harry Browne. They may agree more with your beliefs, or they may not, just be aware of who else is out there.
