The problem is that party platforms are virtually meaningless. The GOP has been claiming that it is the party of "fiscal responsibility" and "small government" for decades, but every single year it has failed to deliver on this claim, racking up bigger and bigger deficits, and continuously levying taxes that have made slaves of working public.

True. If people who want small governmentt actually payed attention and looked past the republicans rhetoric and voted for libertarians or someone else, then the republicans would either fall out of power or be forced to actually practice what they preach. The thing is that we must hold them accountable, and how do we do that? By voting.

The general public doesn't want freedom though, it wants promises. Politicians can only get elected by making promises, and that is why the LP platform practiced in its true form is completely opposed to the nature of government.

Let's suppose the LP became as powerful as the GOP. It would simply become the "new game in town" and the exploiters would take over the LP, just like they took over the GOP, and the LP would eventually become the new GOP, with very little change. There might be a temporary "revolution" as the hard line members of the LP took office, but eventually the party would just become what we have today.

In fact, historically speaking the U.S. started off as a nearly anarcho-capitalist society, supposedly with a Constitution to limit the government's powers to boot. Now look what it has grown into: the biggest mega-state of all time.
