I have been informed by an (Obama or McCain) supporter, that if one votes straight Democrat or Republican ticket at the polls, BEFORE you have voted for the President, your vote for President WILL NOT be counted. If you go to snopes.com, you will see that this is true and it tells you that it's a good idea to vote for each candidate individually, in any case.

Ok, folks. This one is TRUE. I had been hearing anecdotal evidence about it for awhile, but now it is on SNOPES as TRUE.

So if you want all your votes to count, I suggest voting for each candidate individually.

Presented as a public service by your local Obama supporter.

AS FAR AS WE KNOW only North Carolina (from the site)
Anecdotal evidence has been around that it is happening in other states.

So if you want all your votes to count, I suggest voting for each candidate individually.

every ballot I've seen has the president at the top and goes down from there, seems weird that anyone would vote in a different order.

Yes, because if you by chance select any other race first you should be disenfranchised:confused:

Anyone who votes based on the letter next to someone's name doesn't need to be voting anyway.

The place I voted at Wednesday made sure everyone knew this. There were signs all over the waiting area and in the voting area. The volunteers repeated it at least twice. The voting instructions before you started voting were clear. And yes, both party's volunteers outside the polling place were also telling people this as they came in.

Anyone fucking this up is is an idiot and shouldn't have their vote counted on principle.

Yep. Being informed and voting for someone based on thier policies, not political affiliation or blind guessing by (D) or (R) is just so...so......horrible!

Good thing you don't have to vote down here. Your three living brain cells would be no match for the complicated voting instructions we got here in North Cackalacky.

In Texas, this is a disinformation camp Republican smear. "They" have sent out message telling people they need to select Obama AFTER selecting straight ticket. On the ESlate system, that DE-SELECTS your presidential choice, REMOVING your straight ticket vote for Obama

PLEASE DONT ASSUME YOUR STATE PROBLEMS ARE UNIVERSAL. TEXANS DOING THIS WILL BE REMOVING THEIR VOTE FOR PRESIDENT!!!

Why the fck couldn't someone vote a straight ticket? I'm calling BS on this, and NC should be prosecuted by law if this is the case.

So in Texas you should do the same thing as you should everywhere else.
Vote for EACH CANDIDATE INDIVIDUALLY TO MAKE SURE ALL YOUR VOTES COUNT.

if I'm reading it correctly, they can, they just need to vote for the top of the ticket first (president) which I'd assume almost everyone does anyways since that's how every single ballot I've ever seen is laid out.

Yes, just like everyone assumed in 2000 that Floridians would have no problem with the butterfly ballot:confused:

That worked out really well, didn't it?

parties matter. always seemed weird to me to hear campaign ads on tv about how much congressman X/435 is going to raise your taxes because of some bill they voted on twenty years ago as a city councilman when, really, they're going to end up getting corralled into voting straight party line on almost everything if they want to get ahead inside the house.
