This is great for people that want the PCI card for a dual monitor setup as well...

Looks like a decent price. Wonder how much slower it is than the 32meg Radeon

Amigaman - I used to have an Amiga 500 and 1000

I know they posted it on their site like that,

But a 4500 is a Voodoo4.

The Voodoo5's are 64meg cards, both AGP and PCI. And the 4's are already labled 4500 , so I dont think they are coming out with a 32meg 5 now.

Anand did a review of this card several months ago. It does not cut the mustard in comparison to other cards. The Radeon 32 meg spanks the 4500 and only costs a couple of bucks more.

Ouch, I wished I knew about this two weeks ago. Just bought a 3000 series for $50!

My mistake Sept1967, you're correct. It is a Voodoo4 4500. I knew they used the same VSA-100 chip except the 4500 used one and the 5500 used two. I figured since they used the same chip they were both Voodoo5's. Thanks for clearing that up.

fargopilot - It's slower than the Radeon, but I think the newest drivers for it are rock solid and stable for Win2k. I know that there won't be anymore official driver releases for it since 3DFX has gone under, but it's still a decent card.

The 2D is excellent, and the compatibility is excellent. I lament the day 3dfx lost its hold on the market.

I still use a V3-3000, and I won't be upgrading soon, unless it's to a 5500.

Then again, I've almost completely stopped playing games.

Don't think they made a Voodoo 5000 and the PCI versions of the 5500 are somewhat hard to get and expensive if you do happen to find one.

with XP right around the corner, think hard about driver support in the near future for it.

Right, but given that it's a terrible idea to upgrade to any MS OS before at *least* service pack 1, every current card is going to be obsolete before we're all using XP- so I'm not worried 'bout XP support!

Does anybody know how performance compares to that of a V3 3000?

Umm XP uses the same diver model as 2000. Just like 95 drivers worked in 98, 2000 drivers will work in XP.

I had a voodoo3 2000 AGP that could not play Giants worth a cr@p. 640x480x16 was slow to say the least, while games like UT played well. I sold my v3 2k for $71, bought the v4 4500 at OD for $79.88 plus tax, and it is a much much faster card. Twice the memory, super stable, and it allowed me to play Giants at 1024x768x16 at pretty smooth framerates.

Now I have a Radeon 64 DDR and it blows both away. At any rate, to end my useless talking, yes, the 4500 is an upgrade

Sorry if my question sound silly. I know OEM and Retail Box, but what does white box mean?

I know it's always easy for everyone to say "Radeon costs just a few bucks more and spanks this card", but the fact of the matter is that this is a PCI card, and I think it's damn good for dual-monitor support. Or for someone who doesn't have an AGP slot on their older system, Radeon won't do anything either. And I'm much more secure about the Win2k support in this ah heck than in the Radeon, despite no more updates.

white box = oem, means with out anything but the card. Sometimes you have to even download your own drivers from the manufacturer

As far as XP support it does work with the latest build with the default drivers. Only thing missing would be the 3dfx tools that let you tweak the card. But it does not look to bad with the drivers XP installs for it.

All one has to do is install the tools from the previous drivers than add the new ones...Work great with my PCI5500 ;)
