Voodoo3 to Voodoo5

My V3 is gone and I'm getting a V5 (yes I know 3Dfx is no more, I just got a good deal on a V5). I hear there can be problems installing V5 if V3 was not uninstalled properly. How can I be sure that my V5 will install ok? If the V3 is not shown in the display adapters does that mean it is completely gone?

Go to add/remove programs and uninstall 3dfx tools. Then set you adapter to standard VGA, shut down the system and put the Voodoo 5 in. Cancel when Windows detects the new card and run the driver installer.

You shouldn't have any problems but if you do, you may need to edit the registry manually to remove the old stuff. It's either that or a reformat.

After you remove the 3DFX tools and go down to Adapter Default, use find and remove all 3dfx* and 3dfx*.dll files. Go to regedit and check for any folder with 3dfx on them and delete. Use the Beta 8 drivers and place them in a folder and extract them. Click on the setup icon. You will need to use the 3dfx tools set up on the cd itself, beta 8 drivers does not have them. Don't accidently re-install the stock driver. Your Beta 8 driver already has the V5 overclock in it. Go to voodoosource.net and see how to tweak all the settings, they have it down perfectly.

It shouldnt be too much of a problem thinking since the V3 will run on V5 drivers? I could very well be wrong of course.

how about performance ?
