i'm looking for some feedback on this issue. i have a celeron 300a platform as a spare pc. i have a mobo with an agp slot, but i only have a v3 pci. i could prolly trade for an agp version, but would the performance between the agp and pci be big enough to justify the effort of me looking for a trade?

I would keep the pci. The voodoo 3 didn't really support any of the features agp offered, it was basically a pci card that went in an agp slot for the most part. keep the pci and get a badass agp card later.

No. Not worth it. Like canuck44 said, its basically the PCI version going into an AGP slot. No use in wasting your time for nothing, basically.

I always thought that AGP moved data at 32bits @66mhz (AGP 1x) & PCI moves data at 32bits @33mhz. How could the PCI perform the same as the AGP version?

Because the voodoo3 will use less bandwith than the pci slot can give it and thus alot less than what the agp port will alow it to have.

There is no performance diff between the 2. Keep the PCI card. The PCI card will be much easier to sell someday when you upgrade. There are always people looking for a decent PCI card.
