Originally i think the 4MB and 8MB versions were for sale, and then later the 12MB found it's way to the market. I owned just the one 8MB one. I was only young then and hence all my £££ came from parents, and they weren't about to get me 2 anytime soon :(

Actually I don't think there was a 4 MB one, though the original Voodoo (1) cards had 4 MB. There were only 8 MB and 12 MB cards. IIRC, the 12MB card offered only theoretical advantages, because I don't think there was any real-world performance difference.

I remember when the Voodoo2's came out and we started carrying them. As soon as I saw how well games played in SLI, I just had to have it. I think I just threw my cards away about 6 months ago.

3dfx made really bad decisions by choosing to support and push Glide instead of jumping on the OGL/D3D bandwagon like NVIDIA/ATI/Matrox. They fell out of grace with 3rd party manufacturers after buying STB and bringing card manufacturing in house. Then they made the absolutely horrible mistake of crippling the Voodoo3 with only 16 MB of RAM and limiting it to 24-bit color when TNT2's/Rage 128's had 32 MB and 32-bit color. That wouldn't have been so bad if the V4's and V5's had quickly followed, but they didn't come fast enough.

Voodoo2's were nice cards, but 3dfx made some really bad business and technical decisions that put them out of business. And it was no one's fault but their own.

I had two in SLI mode.

Playing HL and Quake 2 was it back then. Xwing Alliance ran great back then too.

I bought two from Best Data at Fry's for $125 each w/c at the time was expensive. I even purchased a Voodoo 2 Stealth cooling fan for both cards.

I was able to sell them when the time came to upgrade at the FS/FT forums.
