<< Its a bios and fan problem on those computers.... NOT A REAL RECALL LIKE THE 1.3 p3.... >>

I just received a few e-mails, and that's their understanding as well, one of them said it was just Best Buy (?).

Yes nVidia did design boards with 2(3) notches to fit in AGP Pro systems.

Heh 3dfx drops the ball again. Too bad for them that the gfx industry is more like fast ball and less like slow pitch 🙂

"that is a joke I hope.. there is a little plug that ships with all AGP Pro motherboards. Use that plug.. duhh."

What are you talking about? The AGP CARD needs a notch/hole/space to fit into the AGP Pro slot which has a 'plug'/spacer/key in it.

what if you take a dremel tool and cut that little piece of plastic off the agp slot for it to fit? electrically should it be compatible?

<< << Voodoo3, Voodoo4, and Voodoo5 products are compatible with Intel's® new Pentium® 4 processor. >>

Then they go on to say:

<< Unfortunately, the core logic chip for Intel's Pentium 4 does not support 3.3 Volt signaling on the AGP Bus. >>
>>

It IS compatible with the processor itself, but the chipset doesn't allow for 3.3 volt operation, therefore V5 owners will have to wait for another chipset before they can use the V5 with the P4.

Buy that time I think Rampage will be out.

this is just weird
how can 3dfx makes the voodoo4 1.5v compatible but not the voodoo5 5500

another point
I think 3dfx knew their boards wont go on the p4, they are just keeping quiet.
from what i know, there is no way to get into that P4 AGP FAQ page from the 3dfx.com (at least i cant find it) unless you directly link to it.

Well I think the v4 will work with a 1.5 volt input because the pcb is smaller than a voodoo5 pcb since it only has 1 chip.

xtreme2k,

Just go to 3dfx, click on "support" from the left hand menu, then FAQs, and "Pentium 4 and Voodoo".

According to the illustration on the bottom of that page the V5 would fit into P4 motherboards if it had that 2nd slot. But that wouldn?t make any difference since the V5 does not support 1.5v.

<< From what I've read the V3/V5 are NOT fully AGP 4x 2.0 compliant.
3dfx has stated that they don't believe AGP 4x is needed for their video cards (mostly true IMHO). They are late supporting the AGP 4x 2.0 spec and the V5 was very late to market.

Basically Intel implemented the final part of the AGP 4x 2.0 spec (1.5v signalling) as they were intending to and 3dfx got caught with their pants down
