No replies in Video so I'll try here:

I have installed the Voodoo 5500 x3dfx drivers version 1.08.04 on my machine and although I'm impressed with the vibrant colours there are horizontal lines going across my screen at 1/2 inch intervals. They appear as stripes.....very annoying. Is there an issue with these drivers or have I muffed something? I tried re-installing them and chose the repair feature instead. What can be done to correct them?

I was sort of happy with the 1.04s but I kept getting messages telling me that they did not support Directx 8 when I installed a game demo and also their performance left much to be desired in my new flight sim Sturmovic IL2.

What do you boys (people) suggest?

Those are the ones I'm trying to upgrade...they're not bad but really suck in the newer games that require DX8 . I'm about to try some custom ones or the WinXP ones.......They couldn't be any worse!

I had one myself(gave to brother, got a Gf3). I ran the last official rivers, 1.04 I think(on a P3 1Ghz), and it never gave me any poblems. Thing is, at 1024x768 32bit in something like Deus Ex or SOF it would get choppy, frame rates were hitting the floor. I think they were awesome card, the AA was the best, but they just weren't very fast. And I don't think any driver is going to help ya in DX8.

Try the WickedGL Drivers for any open GL games you might have. And run in glide when ever you can. :)

It's a shame that they went out of business when they did, because they were just putting in some alpha code for their HSR(hidden surface removal) tech in those newest drivers. Anand did a good article on it. Brought the performance up to a Geforce2, but caused many visual glitches.

To use DirectX 8, you pretty much can't use the official drivers. Try some of the many 3rd party drivers. Go here to find info and drivers.
