Voodoo 5 6000 unveiled to the public!

Today at the Frag4 competition in Dallas, Tx, 3dfx unveiled the Voodoo5 6000 to the public for the first time.

As soon as the announcer stopped talking about it, I promply yelled out "3dfx BLOWS!!!" Got a bunch of looks but I was in the middle of a Counterstrike match and the asshole pissed me off. I also "Boo'ed" the further announcements by 3dfx.

The idiots had the tenacity to unveil it at a completely nVidia controlled event. All the CPL computers were P3 933's w/64mb GeForce2s.

If I find some audio that was recorded, I'll make sure to post it.

BOOO 3dfx!!!

Hmmm, yelling out like that was rather rude:disgust:...but it is rather strange for them to expose it at an nVidia domintated function...hmmm.

dude you need to get a life if you yelled that out. sure it's ok to be a zealot on the freaking internet, but when you do that in real-life(tm) it's just sad.

The word you should have used is audacity. For example, he had the audacity to interrupt the speaker.

Whether or not you buy 3dfx or think 3dfx makes a good product, I think that was quite rude. All you proved was that your an immature person.

I agree with everyone else, man. That's a pretty.. impolite thing to do, I can understand you getting a lot of looks. I stay clear of people who start shouting back advocacy to an announcer too. Reminds me of the drunk frat kids in the back of the class, it does..

LOL! Mama's boy ..... right? Didn't get enough attention as a child? You know, they make a really great product to help you break that thumb sucking problem.

It always amazes me how a seemingly fully functional human being can get along with no more brains than God gave a gold fish.

Grow up. Some day YOU may be the one making an announcement for some major company.

It was rude, but it was also rude of 3dfx to anounce the product in a nVidia sponsored event and aperently in a middle of a match.

Czar - go here:

Frag4 website

3dfx was a sponsor and NVIDIA isn't even listed on the sponsor page. And I bet they had matches going on all day with plenty of other announcements.

Radeon - If you did what you claimed, you have no class.

Radeon,

You're being an idiot. You got the same reaction at the Frag4 arena as you did here. Most people learn when they are wrong by watching the expressions around them. Guess you needed a second dose of reality to convince yourself you were being an idiot.

Uh... ok whatever.

Personally I'm cheering 3dfx on. The poor blokes need to stay competative or we'll be paying out our a$$es for video cards! 🙁

Radeon, thought you'd get mad love from the forums for acting like a fool in public?

BTW, I just read the V5 6000 costs $800. I can build an integrated system for that much. I wonder how many cards they plan to sell at that price?

I'm hoping that 3dfx makes a great product with the Rampage.

We need the competition. ATi seems like they may pull together a good fight, but I'm still not 100% confident in ATi. Matrox seems to be focusing on the Professional market, not gamers, so that just leaves 3dfx and nVidia IMHO, so I hope 3dfx manages to fight back.

I like nVidia just fine, but I also like Creative just fine, and I'm very dissappointed that Aureal died...because what have we now! The incrementally increasing Emu10k1 (SBLive) family strikes again.
I'm worried that nVidia will do the same if 3dfx died.

I don't even have any comments for Radeon...

Edit: Oh wait, I lied, just one...

<< The idiots had the tenacity to unveil it at a completely nVidia controlled event >>

How do you figure?
Nvidia is not even an official Frag4 sponsor and 3dfx is. nVidia may have had GeForces in all the machines, but that doesn't make it a completely nVidia controlled event.

The Frag4 link was already posted, but you seem to need the same information more than once, so here it is again.

Strange, if 3dfx was the main sponsor and all the computers had GeForce2 GTS cards in them, makes me wonder if 3dfx doesnt think that their own Voodoo5 5500 is up to the task of playing Quake3.

Czar - Look at the sponsor page. Hercules is there as well. Even the most hardened 3dfx zealot (and I'm not one, I like all the 3D companies and want there to be as much competition as possible) will admit that the GF2 is the top Q3 card.

If it had been an UT contest ...

Michael

KarsinTheHutt, we're already paying our a$$ off for video cards. 🙂 It doesn't look it'll ever go down. Remember the days when 300 Bucks for a DDR Geforce was expensive? 🙂
