So all your 65W light bulbs are on separate breakers? If all the better cards had a supply like this we would not have all the problems we read about every day.

My god, look at that size!

Eh, let's just hope 3DFX will actually release it as promised 🙂.

They better do so soon, because darn.. the timings are bad.. and at 600$USD+ Am not so sure this is going to be a big hit for most home users running on their mini towers.

Ho ever though that the future for video cards will require an extra power supply, this is getting rediculous 😉.

Oleg,

Don't forget that ALL texture memory will take up 4 times the memory compared to what it would take on a radeon or a geforce 2 gts.

There were some rumors that the V5 6000 would be a .18micron part, but looking at the size of the board, I dont think so...😀

I think mostly arcade machines should carry this board seeing that even in the arcades now they are still using v2 in sli so i would suppose something of this size would go there too.

"Such loosers vsa-100 has no trilinear filtering!"

Er, Hardware before you start flaming, you might want to get the spelling correct first. "looser"??

I agree with Michael. When the day comes that Nvidia hiccups and loses the lead, and it will happen, you guys trashing all non-nvidia product will feel pretty lonely. But hey, you gotta love competition. Just try to be civil.

I'm sorry, but with my hd bracket in place on my Enlight 7237, I have about 13 inches of clearance for a video card. And my case fits ATX specifications, its not the case's fault that the V5-6k is too long.

The only way i'd fit a v5 into this case, would be to pull out my hd bracked and find another place to mount my hd's.

Mike

Mikewarrior2 - Do you have any intention of buying a V5 6K? Have you actually seen one? Best as I can tell, you wouldn't buy a 3dfx product if it were given you for free, so why comment?

I have a generic mid-tower with space for 3 5 1/4" and 2 3 1/2" drives. The HD brackets do not come close to blocking my AGP slot. I have 4 different mid-tower designs in my room around me right now. Not one of them blocks the AGP slot.

If I was going to put of $600 for a videocard, I don't think that a $50 case swap would slow me down if I needed a case that could fit the card.

I'm sure that there are cases where it would be a problem, but I bet it isn't the 100% picture that the bashers seem to want to present.

How about letting 3dfx release the card onto the market and then let people decide if they want to buy it?

Michael

As for the price, I could buy a V5 6K, put it on my driveway, run over it, and then go buy another one if I wanted to (I would rather put more money into my daughter's college savings account, but that's just me). The card is obviously being priced and marketed to the hardcore people to whom money is not an object.

I agree that $600 is expensive for a consumer videocard, but there are plenty of people that could afford it if they wanted to.

Michael

You're absolutely right Michael, but that won't stop the people who can't afford it from whining and trying to trash it.

I am not stopping anyone from wasting their money on one. If you want ot, or anyone else wants to, go right ahead. But the majority of mid-towers do have hD cages in front of the AGP slot. Sure, you can remove the cage, but that isn't possible if you have multiple drives in there.

Pariah, if I wanted to waste money, i would buy it or a gf2 ultra. Unfortunately, there are things more important than spending $500+ on a video card.

Mike

Again, do you have any intention of buying the card? If you are not going to, then why comment? It hasn't even been released yet!

And what makes you think that the "majority" of mid-tower cases will have that problem. I'm 4 for 4 in cases that could fit the V5 6K. even cases with a braket that's in the way, unless it is full of drives, and I mean CD as well as HD's, it still isn't an issue. Two minutes work with metal clippers and the bottom drive space is gone.

If 3dfx designed a product that doesn't fit into most people's cases, then they'll have to deal with lower sales. I still don't get the whining and bashing about the cost or the size or the power supply.

Michael

Remember, $600 is the same amount ppl paid for V2-SLI setups. Looks sweet, but I'm not too interested in this generation of cards. The only thing that worrie me about them releasing the 6000 so late, is that it means their next-gen probably won't hit the runways until early next year, about the same time as the NV20.

Michael,

You obviously have no intention of buying nvidia cards, yet you still make comments in nvidia threads.

I fail to see how you can make comments, yet I can't about the v5-6k. What kind of hypocritic $hit is that? STop being an @sshole.

Also, wth would 3dfx design it fit only when the cage is without drives. Some people actually do fill up their hd cages with hd's, floppies, zips and what not.

Mike

I own shares in both NVIDIA and 3dfx. I'm probably going to buy an MX as my next card as I'm interested in the twin monitors option (which is why I'm a little concerned that it doesn't seem to work well right now). I like NVIDIA's cards, and they're a great choice to make. I'm just getting tired of the constant bashing of 3dfx's cards.

I am not being a hypocrite at all. If you think that I'm an @sshole, then that's your issue, not mine.

Michael

ps - I'm from Montreal and have always had a soft spot for Matrox (hometown link).

pps - I have a DVD drive, a CDR drive, a floppy, and two HD's in my Mid-tower case and no issues with putting a V5-6K in if I wanted to.

But I've made much more money on the NVIDIA shares that have gone up, so shouldn't I be defending NVIDIA? Lame try.

It has much more to do with my sense of fairness going off. the way that 3dfx gets bashed you would think that using their cards would cause my hair to fall out and impotence.

Well, my V5 5500 does just fine with everything I've tried and the image quality is good as well. I bought it because the few 3D games that I do play look very good with FSAA. A V3 or TNT2 is more than enough for Railroad Tycoon II and Medieval 2 ( http://www.incrediblesimulations.com/isiM2SS4.html ), the two games I ahve been playing.

Just like my Velocity 100 does fine in my Linux box that I was fooling around with TCL/TK on today.

My Dad just bought a new Dell and it came with an NVIDIA card. He likes it.

Michael

I see no reason to have to have two powersupplies just to power a video card! Lets get real here!
