Voodoo 5 $199 at compusa

I guess I blinked cuz last I looked this was $299 at compusa. Saw it listed as $199 in the store (and right above that also listed with the exact same box as $299), and just checked the website it's $199 there too. Is 3dfx cooking up some radical new pricing scheme and compusa is just the first?

Yep, the Voodoo 6000 is just a figment of the imagination, and shortly 3dfx will be too...just think, they used to be the king of the hill.......🙂

jmman, not so. 3dfx is selling their plant in Mexico and going to making chips, not the PCBs any more. So that will free up a lot of R&D money and their aquisition of Gigapexel should bolster their future technologies as well.

Sorry for the OT post. 🙂

Nice deal.

If 3dfx's management execute as in the previous years, no technological breakthrough is going to safe them.

Looks like I was wrong. When I searched for it, it showed as $250. I got a direct link to it and it now shows up as $177. Be aware that Compuplus has it for $173 too which makes it slightly better for pricematch if you get a Staples CSR that will want to add an ungodly amount since Onvia has free shipping which they say means they have to charge $25 for next day shipping.

Check pricewatch guys.....there are 8 or 9 stores that have it cheaper.... ***Compuplus has it for $185 shipped Fedex***

Watch this guys.
3dfx is no mas, and traditionally that means the drivers that you buy with the card will be the last ones made.

They aren't no mas...they are just stopping card-making...just like they did pre-v3, also just like nVidia. Develop the chips...sell tech to other companies...make money. Much more RandD, and no manufacturing problems like w/the 5500 delays. They won't be on top, but they certainly won't be going out of business.

according to their press release they are closing the mexico plant(sometime). They will not be directly producing anymore video cards, they will make arraingments with other builders to build the cards. They are going to return to their roots and design graphics chipsets and then sell those chipsets to third parties. And according to there tech support no voodoo6000 or 6500 whatever they were going to call it, according to him it ran into serious compatability problems with newer technologies. They are also going to be outsourcing there tech support to third parties. future drivers will be developed by others.
These are still the best all around cards on the market and at 150-175 you cant beat them.
Try this--- find the lowest price on the web including next day delivery and then pricematch it with staples, and use a 40 or 30 coupon code. Should be able to get one for about 150.

I was just getting ready to post something about Voodoo5 prices when I saw this thread. They have dropped $26 in two days. Now the lowest on pricewatch is $173. Where is it gonna stop?

I just ordered one today at ebworld.com using that MSN Passport 20% discount. Total came out to only $166.98 shipped. Anyone interested may want to check that out.

I feel a Staples PM and coupon coming on.
Voodoo5=$145.
Can you say "Yoohoo Voodoo" 3 times really fast?

"Ummm...no they don't. They have it listed as 250+ dollars.
$199 at CompUSA is the best price out there if it is true. "

Onvia Voodoo 5500 AGP $177.60

ChicagoMaroon - It's listed as $299 on the main pages but the actual listing and price in shopping cart showed up as $199 for me then minus 20% + $6.99 for shipping = $166.98. I just double checked the site and it still shows up as $199 before discount.

vitrucast - Thanks! 😀

Going to see if Staples will pricematch Onvia first.

[edit]
The Staples CSR said the Voodoo is a store only item, can't order over the web. I tried putting it in my cart with random zip codes and no go. Off to ebworld.com I go.

I was just thinking today that they REALLY needed to match with the GeForce2 pricing!! bout time they got off their hi horse!

i think i will return my GeForceDDR I just bought for $99 and grab up a NEW VOODOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I understand 3Dfx is going back into the chip making business just like nvidia and just like they were before buying STB. I'm sure there will be support for this card until this card becomes obsolete (what about 2yrs. max).
