VOODOO 3 2000 PCI FRAMES IN COUNTER-STRIKE

I have a Voodoo 3 2000 PCI video card, a Duron 700, a quantum 40.0 gig 7200 rpm hard drive, 256 megs pc 133 ram and all the latest drivers...My question is, when I play counter-strike for half-life, I am maxed at 75 fps. My res is 640x480 and I have my max_fps set to 100 in CS...Does anybody know why it is stuck on 75? Is it supposed to be this low, or could it possibly go higher?

I have the same card on a CEL 500 with 192MB of ram. My FPS only hits 100 when i'm staring at a wall...most of the time in games it's anywhere from 30fps-80. Usually around 50 when in actual play.

What's your name in CS BTW.

75fps isn't bad for that card, you might want to bump it up to 800*600 if you are maxing out at that rez. That's what I played at with a voodoo3. I upgraded to a geforce 2, and I get something like 45-70 fps, 1024*788 with 2xFSAA on. It isn't maxing out on the fps, but you'd be surprised how often the resolution helps you distinguish friend from foe at a distance and let's you one moment faster than your enemy. I was just banned from some server because the idiot with rconn thought being 12/1 was impossible.

You've got a decent system, have you overclocked your V3 2000 up to 3000 speeds yet? It's definitely the component holding you back, but you should probably wait a few months before upgrading, just so you have the advantage of the nv20 to push the geforce 2 and radeon prices down further.

I agree. It's most likely v-sync. Check your display properties and see what your refresh rate is set to.

<< I was just banned from some server because the idiot with rconn thought being 12/1 was impossible >>

Lol. I've gotten scores of up to 20/3 sometimes (before the other team realizes they suck and start doing something about it). Thank god there are never any idiots on rcon 🙂.

i agree with the above, v-sync is your problem and you'll have to get the overclocking tool from 3dfx if you want to remove it. i'm sure there is a registry edit for it but i'm not sure what it is exactly. btw i haven't been able to find the overclocking addition to 3dfx tools since they dismantled the web page but if you hunt around i'm sure you can find it somewhere....

Hey whats up my fellow c-strikers. My name in CS is [DLR]Superman...If anyone wants to play online sometime message me, my aim name is WTFDUMBASS. LOL I usually get banned if I talk trash to the other team haha, most of the time its because they think I'm using an auto-aim bot...One thing that I really hate is speed cheating, but most of the time I cap the person cheating LOL. Thanks for your help on the video card guys, it was v-sync turned on..hehe

It sounds like you have vsync enabled, which is capping your maximum framerates. Either increase your monitor's refresh rate or go into the OpenGL control panel and disable vsync.

I beleave there is a max frame rate setting in the config file for half-life or counter-strike. It could be another game I'm thinking of but its worth a look.

Are you using D3D or OpenGL?

HalfLife (including its mods) limits OpenGL to certain rates which override what maxfps is set to. Try using D3D as it is only limited by VSync and maxfps.
