that's the "clever" thread title?

your slipping man..

I'd much have preferred something about him being an ankle biter. But, it is better than the nothing we got last week.

My upset is Oakland over Arizona. I think they are going to get one finally; and it is going to be something that stuns the nation!

I'd call that SF pick an upset as well but I hope you're right, on both counts.

That wouldn't be a huge upset though. I'd have taken SF in the SB over Denver last year, as well. SF looked good (eventually) last night and I expect that to carry over to Denver. I think SF's D will limit Peyton enough Kaep and Co can keep the game in their favor.

I hope you're right but I think Manning is going to destroy their secondary, especially Culliver.

Last year I would agree with you. This year the team is broke and Jim has checked out.

I don't think they are going to give him time. He is going to have to make quick throws and that is going to limit a lot. SF is going to power run and keep the ball as much as possible, limiting Kaep's mistakes (which he, himself, seems to have limited) and I think they come away with the win.

he's fine making quick throws. If you blitz him, he's going to pick you apart over the middle and on screens. Peyton could not care less about a pass rush. Until he gets knocked down. If SF can put Peyton on his back multiple times in the first quarter they have a shot.

That is true, but the SF LBs and secondary can limit the damage Peyton does on the underneath routes much better than if he was able to throw down field. If they can get some early hits on him though, they will have few problems.

Den's offense has looked pretty shaky, especially against the Jets for a while. Peyton had some REALLY low passes which was very uncharacteristic and I don't have a good feeling about them bouncing back soon. Luckily their defense is doing well enough to keep winning, but I don't see Manning destroying anybody with a decent D. Their run game has been pretty limited, so the play action isn't getting sold leading to Manning taking a few sacks. Plus he's so afraid to get hit that he collapses as soon as he feels a change in air pressure near him.

Manning is being smart about getting hit. There is no reason for him to take unnecessary hits this late in his career. Him going down and losing a few yards, a 3rd down conversion, or even a game is worth it, as he can add far more to the team when he is healthy than when he isn't. Taking a sack without the risk isn't going to bankrupt the season. Even if they lose the game because of it, unless it is a playoff or important season game, they can absorb it.

No huge upsets this week although I like the Redskins over Titans and the 49ers over Broncos.

I understand the reason behind it, it's just frustrating to watch at times

no way in hell sf beats denver. The media is so far up Peytons jock this week about breaking the record that Godell himself is going to tackle any 49er that tries to score a TD.

I'm hoping the 9ers will run the hell out of the ball and keep Peyton off the field. I agree with the above that if they can knock him down, he'll show his frustration and make some mistakes. Otherwise, he'll pick the secondary apart, which is especially frustrating to watch.
