Hey... signed up for vonage and am using the service ( with the help of a linksys router )... however, my max download speed has almost halved... my max download speed is 200 kb/sec as opposed to 450 kb/sec before.... Is this normal? if so, is there any way i could help increase the speed ?

thanks much

Not normal for me here, my fiancee is using my vonage phone as we speak and im downloading a file at 350kps, my normal speed from before i got vonage.

yes.. i used the setup CD..... took 5 min to setup...

I was thinking... coudnt i just insert the phone line into my laptop and avoid using the router? since i dont have any other computer to connect my router too and have a LAN.. so this way.. my laptop would act just like a router by allowing me to use my phone off the internet that my laptop is connected to?

thanks

i didnt get ur question.. im using my normal cordless phone and have connected it to the back of my router which is the only place where i have ports..... ( so the question of connecting to the front doesnt arise )

Thanks

P.S: it is a Linksys Broadband Router with 2 phone ports... - Rt31P2

i see. but since the internet signal is passing through through 2 routers and reaching my laptop instead of reaching it directly, dont u think it would make it even slower? i do, however, have a netgear mr814 router lying around unused...

Connect the telephone router to the other router as you would another computer - do not connect any computers to it.

ok lemme see if i get this right...

Router 1 ( netgear ) :

I should have following connections
1) My laptop
2) 2nd linksys phone router

Router 2 ( linksys) :

I should have following connections

1) Internet connection
2) Phone

is that how i should do it?

Cable modem ----------- Netgear ---------- Linksys ----- Phone line
|
|
PC/Laptop (this should be under the Netgear)

If you disconnect the incoming phone line at the box outside your house you can just plug the Linksys into the wall plug and you can use any phone line in the house/Apt.

i got up this morning and realized that i can download at speeds of 350 kb/sec but the phone connectiois still not that great....

Im trying to avoid breaking the seal of the netgear which i got for free as i was thinking that i could probably sell it and make some profit since the linksys would act as a router ...in order to get good quality, do u think its essential that i use my netgear?

thanks

ok well connected everything ( with the mr 814 router ,etc ) but turns out that my phone aint workin anymore... i dont get a dial tone... and the PHONE light on my linksys phone adapter doesnt blink either...

Thanks
