Nothing to do with the deal, but is anyone else having problems with their service today? I can't make outgoing calls and when I call vonage's help number(from another phone) it just rings and rings. Think the power problem in the NE is causing this?

Yeah, that sucks!
They should have their own power system, as the phone companies have.
And people were really paying $60+ for this?

Another reason why this service sucks so badly.

You must be an idiot, literally.

You lack attention. The service is under 40 bucks for unlimited use, I don't get where you got the $60+
2nd, The Calls are depending on your broadband connection.
I live on the eastcoast that was affected by the Power outage, and I made calls fine once the Power came back up.

Apparently the big-boys are beginning to take notice (and aim) at VoIP services like Vonage. Check this Link from zdnet. Some bellcos are backing the VoIP, some are opposing it.

Wonder how much longer until additional taxes/fees are added on to everyone's internet account.

OK, i've had vonage now for 6 months and Packet8 for 2 months (vonage for my office, packet8 for my home).

all other things being equal Vonage is WAAY WAAYY better than packet8. i don't think that packet8 is worth the $20.00 a month. matter of fact, i'm going to cancel my packet8 account and go with Verizon.

i've been VERY VERY disappointed with packet8. Vonage has been pretty consistent.

I think it's the VOIP Routers they use. Vonage Uses the Cisco router and i dont' remember which one packet8 uses but it seems to drop more calls, get's more busy signals WHEN THE OTHER LINE ISN'T busy (i think that's a packet8 server problem).

bottom line, don't be tempted by packet8's price. Vonage is the better way to go.

When I signed up for Vonage I was always worried that if my cable modem went down I'd lose my phone. Well, after this hurricane crap, it seems that all my neighbor's phones don't work, but mine does. How's that for funny? The cable ended up being more reliable than Verizon and I'm saving a crap load of money each month.

I also got a real world test of just how long my battery backup lasts. My routers and phones stayed up for about 8 hours and the power is already back on.
