Since when does vonage charge a cancellation fee ?

I thought the router they give out was ours to keep once the account is cancelled.
I've been with them for over a year and was not satisfied that I couldn't send faxes so I cancelled.
Now they're telling me there is a disconnect fee and i'll have to return the cisco unit + box + manuals + all accessories in order to be credited.

Who the hell keeps all that garbage packaging ?

For the new subscribers, keep everything~!!! I MEAN EVERYTHING SO they dont screw you over like this.

You agreed to this when you signed up:

4.6 Disconnect Fee

Customer will be charged a disconnect fee of $39.99 per voice line upon termination of Service for any reason or for convenience by Customer. The disconnect fee becomes due and payable immediately upon termination and will billed directly to Customer's credit card. If Customer has multiple lines, Customer will be charged a disconnect fee of $39.99 per line for each line disconnected. To receive a credit for the disconnect fee, Customer must return the Device(s) undamaged and in original condition within fourteen (14) days of termination as set forth in Section 1.8. Vonage will not credit Customer if the Device(s) is damaged or not in its original condition as received by the Customer or if Customer has otherwise failed to comply fully with the requirements of Section 1.8. In the event Customer disconnects multiple lines, Vonage will issue Customer a credit for all disconnect fees upon receipt of all Devices (including without limitation Multimedia Terminal Adapters) in accordance with this Section and Section 1.8.

Ignorance is no excuse. You should have read the TOS and you would have known about this.

That kind of sh#t should be stated in an obvious way. not hidden in some bullsh#it small type. My fax never worked right with Vonage and was just thinking about cancelling. I've had it for about 4 months. What a load of crap.

It's on their website, unless your running 3200x2400 on a 15 inch monitor it should have been readable. Did you want them to call you and read the whole TOS for you? :D

Always read the fine print when agreeing to something.

When you sign up for Vonage, it MAKES you click "I agree" on a page with the TOS.

Is it just me, or are people becoming less and less responsible for themselves?

yea those adapters arent cheap. They dont have all the money in the world. If 20,000 subscribers didnt return their adapter, at an average ebay price of $50(isnt new like $120 or more?), anyways, at that rate thats like $1 million. Unless you are microsoft, that kind of money should matter, especially if you have shareholders to answer to.
