Apparently the Motorola boxes they give you have 2 phone ports, but the 2nd port is only for a second line, not a second phone. My question is how do you guys get around this? Do you pay for an expensive phone system with multiple handsets??

You disconnect the house wiring from the local phone company's loop at your junction box. Then you plug a phone cord from your vonage box to the nearest phone jack in your house. At this point, all of your phone jacks should not receive dialtone from your vonage box.

That's what they told me too. The only problem is that I leave in an apartment complex so that method won't work for me :(

Have there been any deals on the vonage kit? Now it's $99.99 - $50 MIR ( at circuit city)

That's what I just bought. It has 2 months free as well, so it's a better deal than signing up online--however, their signup website for circuit city buyers is extremely buggy. It took me several tries before it accepeted my MAC address and I just kept copy, pasting the MAC address until it went through. It would just keep saying Error: bla bla bla.

Where did you see this info on the free 2 months? If that's the case, I'll go pick one up now!

check it out...

run your phone line from your vonage box to the nearest phone jack...unscrew the jack from the wall, the back of the jack will have either green/red scheme or a blue/white scheme...anyway, strip some wires back from the line you ran from your vonage box, then hook those wires up to the existing wires behind the jack, either by splicing said wires together, or by positioning the wires under the screw that is making contact with the other wires...

i know this sounds confusing, but if you can just make your vonage wires make contact with your existing phone jack wires, it SHOULD energize every phone jack in your place

i've succesfully done this at a buddies house where he had vonage

EDIT: sorry i know this is confusing, but it works, trust me....i wish i could explain it better but it is definitely past my bedtime

I've fixed dead phone jacks before by opening them up and slicing off rusted wire ends and what not. So, you're saying I just need to cut the ends off of the RJ 11 phone line that was running out of my Vonage box and splice that with the live wires in the phone jack proper? Wouldn't I need to get something to see whether any of the wires are live and would zap my Vonage box? Thanks!

I got one during th Black Friday,
Vtech 2 headsets :) cost me like 29.99 out the door after rebate.
Funny thing is, this rebate came the quickest out of all the rebates.

BTW A reminder, don't forget to activate 911 on your account. It is NOT activated by default from what I've been able to find out.

Man this vonage crap is a piece of junk. I've spent almost 3-4 hours trying to get my account activated. Hold times are almost 30 minutes. The signup page has so many problems with it. They can not answer my question about how to change the ip address of the motorola unit. And on top of it, it sent me an email saying it didn't accept my CC info.
I'm seriously thinking about returning this crap.

Sorry to hear that. I've just gone from paying 37 cents a minute, to 13 cents a minute overseas calls. My phone bill is typically $350-$400+ a month. So, I'm happy it's working for me! Hehe. I did warn you about their buggy web page though. Page 9 of their manual says you have to surf over to address 192.168.102.1 to configure the unit, and you can assign the unit an IP address there if you want. To do this you'd have to have the unit hooked up to a computer and not your router though.

I got that part setup (hooking up to the computer) Do I put my internal ip address in the Specify Static IP Address. All of my machines on my network have a 192.168.1.xxx ip address. Static IP. The box has that 192.168.102.1 ip address

Apparently my account is setup finally :)

Wow. My connection practically dies when I'm on the phone. The sound gets choppy and my sister was telling me that she couldn't hear me after a few minutes. I have 3mb down/256kb up.

Use the boxe's quality of service option to dynamically adjust bandwidth so you get a nice clear sound. Mine's working like buttah. :D:beer:

P.S. If you have a router then you could just do the alternate setup and just attach the box to the router and have the router take a dynamic IP address instead.

I'm using the alternate setup installation (no quality of service options) with my Microsoft MN-500 router assigning all computers and the Motorola box a dynamic IP address.

Do you mean you have it set to 30kbps?

If you have a router and put it behind it, don't forget to forward the ports. Also, what cable modem are you using? I have an RCA DCM235 and if I'm on the phone and try to do a speed test, the test dies. I'm told a new modem will fix this.
