Vonage help please

I'm looking at a VOIP company -- vonage sounds like the best.

Is there any way around the activation fee if I sign up online?

Any idea on how to get a good deal on vonage (aside from whats on their site) -- google hasn't turned up anything substantial?

A little off-topic but...

Take a look at Sunrocket too. I just signed up with them and I am extremely pleased.

Sunrocket definitely has better pricing and "perks" but I heard about some outage issues that they've had sporatically. It was a little concerning.....

without question vonage has the best quality service out there. they also have invested the most money in marketing etc. which means they will have the money to continue to improve their reliability.

i have vonage btw.

Well, I decided to go with Sunrocket to give it a try. Theres no charge to start up and its a no hassle cancel policy so what the hey.

I have had Vonage for just shy of a year now. I have nothing but good to say about them. I love the free LD, especially with a friend that moved to Calgary and Vegas last year just before my family moved to Mississippi.

As for deals, we have paid for a total of 3 months out of the 12 that we have had service. When we initially signed up, we got the first two months free. We got two others to sign up and got 2 months free for each of those. Then, my wife wrote some short paragraph about how great Vonage is and they awarded us another 4 months free.

Other than Katrina killing power to us for a week and a half, we haven't had any real service issues.

what happens if your cable goes out and you need to call 911?

Then 911 wont work.

You can have a regular phone also though and 911 will always work with that even if you dont pay for service. Or a cell phone.

Call your cable company afterwards and complain.

Which SunRocket plan are you going with?

I did the $199 for a year plan, figured it worked out to the lowest cost. When I called them with a few questions, they said that if I cancel, then I get a pro-rated refund on the $199 which sounded like a no-brainer to me then.

You use your cell phone -- since most of us have these now, having it go out (on the rare occasion) isn't a big issue in my book. Most cell towers have generator backup.

Also, I do have battery backup on my cable modem and computer.

I saw an ad on Yahoo Mail to sign up for Vonage and get 1 month free.
Dunno if you knew about that one or not, but I thought I would share.

This doesn't seem to be an issue anymore. They have had very reliable service for me for the past few months and in the other big SR thread most people agree.

Do the same thing -- use your cell. I doubt you'll see outages very often, but there's always that possibility of having one.
