Vomitting after sipping water?

The wife and I have been vomitting and puking all day, and her dad is pretty sure it's Viral gastroenteritis (he's a doc)... But the weirdest thing is that we're both puking after just sipping water. anyone ever have this?

you'd be dry heaving even if you didn't just sip some water. frankly, the watery puke is easier than the dry heaving.

Your stomach is saying GET OUT! Even to water. Normal with a virus. Try ice chips.

But if you can't keep water down no use drinking it until you get better.

don't try and drink anything until you haven't thrown up in a few hours, then try

I'd say have her drink something. It's much better to puke out water that's still cold than it is to dry heave.

Might want to get admited so they can give you an IV and you don't dehydrate. That is if this has been going on for like 8+ hours.

You'll be fine. Just ride it out. Dont keep forcing water down yoru stomach, you'll just aggravate it some more. Let it rest for a few hours then sip some water and pop a prilosec

yum-o!

Indeed ... this is a license to eat and you won't get fat, or if you are already fat (like me), then you won't get fatter!

yeah, i had those symptoms 3 or 4 years ago. all i could do was sip room temp water a little bit at a time.

edit: but not enough that i could keep from dry heaving before the day was out.

lasted about a day or so, my kids (1 and 2 at the time) had it the day before.that was one of the most horrible weekends of my life. never went to the doc, we were fine by monday morning.

Stomach virus. There are some meds that will help keep down liquids. Dunno what they are called or if you need a prescription.

I was told you don't want that when we went to the ER for a bout of it.
The ER Doctor said you should just try to do regular fluids, maybe something like pedialyte, but stuff that helps you hold fluids will only make the illness last longer and worse.

There's a reason your body is trying to pass it out two directions. 😉

I've had gastroenteritis a few times. Your symptoms are exactly like what I had. I bet after vomiting you feel almost 100% better for a few minutes, then it slowly gets worse until you vomit again.

It's pretty bad, but you'll be fine in a day or two.

Oh, it's HIGHLY contagious, so don't go out. If you touch someone else you'll sentence them to the same fate as you. Even if you touch a doorknob and then someone else touches it, they'll get it.

The cure is to chug an entire half liter bottle of water in 30 seconds or less.

It might not work the very first time, but definitely keep trying until it does.

This. I was going to suggest that. Constant vomiting like that + vomiting when drinking water can be dangerous
