Volume control with poll

How does everyone control their volume? Do you jack up the windows volume and only control using the speaker or do you set the speakers and mainly control it using windows?

I just purchased some Logitech Z-5500s and would like to know the "best" way to go about controlling the volume. I have heard that the windows volume shouldn't be set to higher than 50% with my soundcard (Audigy2). I want clean sound and to avoid clipping...

Suggestions?

EDIT: Poll added

Set a poll at the top of the page

I set the volume on windows at 30-50% and control the sound using the speakers. Older sound cards (most old isa cards) had a jumper on board that was for powered speakers and would provide a fixed level of sound so that only the speaker volume knob could be used. It was a way of protecting the speaker or audio system from burining up. I have not seen any similar jumper or driver settings that alow this to be done on modern sound cards.

I'm using digital out so I have it on max.

My receiver takes care of the volume control for me. I have it set at - 40 right now and it's plenty loud for music 🙂

Gotta crank it to -10 or -5 for movies though, muahahahhahahahhahaha

Well with Winamp at 27%, System at 55~60% and speakers at minimum, Winamp is kinda loud. So I use all three.
I use Winamp/WMP + System + Speaker for those, and System + Speakers for games.
I always have Winamp going when I play games to have my own music in the background.

Edit: So I'm not completely off topic here, I almost always use the Windows volume controls - mostly because I most often use headphones that don't have their own volume controls. That, and I can just turn the wheel on my keyboard, and I'm lazy. 😛 (Although when I use my speakers - which is not often, but whenever I'm watching my 24 DVD's or playing games loudly or whatever - I usually use the speakers' volume knob then.)

I actually went to bed at 10:30 last night, what's wrong with me? :Q 😛

I'll get back into the Night Crew thing this weekend probably. 😎

Does the "volume" of the output on the soundcard affect quality of the signal received by the speakers at all?

I use analog line-in on my stereo, so I have to set the software volume to avoid clipping, then control master volume with the stereo.
