voltages on components

I learned a few days ago from you kind folks that increasing voltage on the cpu reduces life. I get that part, but what is the cause? Is it from high temperatures or just overall circuitry damage within the cpu? I plan to overclock a venice or an opteron if possible, but I learned somewhat how overclocking works and it seems I need to increase voltage on the motherboard chipset(nForce 4 Ultra for me), and memory. Does the same rule apply that it will shorten life for the chipset and the memory as well? Does the severity/rate of reducing life vary by these components? Especially for memory, it seems high voltages are common, and I was just wondering because I don't want my computer to burn down in 6 months or a year. One last question, is there such thing as a rough estimate to which how much voltage increased = how many months/years are subtracted from its life? I know that experienced users might have went through many components and maybe remember your experiences on how long these lasted. ex. 1.4v stock goes to 1.45v and it reduced life 4 months?? If I increased the voltage by only .5v, would there be any significant effect on the cpu's life? sorry for all the questions, but obviously I am a noob and I need to know these things. Thank you.
