voltage?

okay on asus probe my 12 volt line always runs a little high.. it was average at 12.8 but now that i installed my new vid card it averages 13 and when i play games and stuff it gets to 13.5 and asusprobe starts to beep at me.. what will happen if i keep this up?

Geez, 13 volts, what PSU are you using? If I'm correct, usually using your CPU/GPU drops your voltage lines no?

12volt rail increases with load, 5v rail decreases

im getting a new psu soon for the same reason.. 12v rail puts out very near 13v when i overclock

really screwed now.. i was playing a game with the rail running high, and everything cut out.. acrid smell came out..
tried to reboot sometime later.. lights were on, fan was turning, but no screen.. tried with old pci video card too.. now the lights won't even come on with that psu.. pulled an old one out of a pII system, lights and fan come on, but again no screen 🙁 🙁 could the old one be underpowered or do you think the mb is dead??

Well, my friend had a bug crawl into his power supply and it did about the same thing. Killed everything in the computer. Hard drive was the only thing I didn't try from his system, the rest was toast.

Power is like a see-saw. To keep the same power level, if the current (amps) drop, the voltage goes up (to the point that protection kicks in, then everything goes away).

It sounds like the current supply of your power supply is a little light for the load.

Whoa, my 12V line averaged a 13.03V during a 4 day period. With a high of 13.18. This is under full load 24/7.

Is that bad?

i tried it with a brand new 350w psu.. again lights and fan, but no beeps or video... so do you people think my mb (a7n8x deluxe btw) is dead? what should i do if it is? does the warranty/newegg cover me at all?

try using your raidmax on your old system... if that powers up then i guess your mobo is dead... if not... well you got a lot of troubleshooting to do... maybe you can try resetting the cmos and start over

Newegg is good about RMAs, try sending both back and buying a good power supply. It's sorta the shotgun approach to solving problems: throw a lot of parts at it until it works.
