I'm using some generic 350w psu called turbolink that came with my aspire x-dreamer case. recently I installed a DigiDoc 5 and saw that my 5v rail (er whatever) and 12v were nearly .5v off! I'm sure this is pretty bad and am posting because my sytem is doing things that I can't explain like Far Cry crashing to desktop and sata running slow and getting stop errors.

voltages I've seen:
4.6v , 12.8v (!!!) WTF!

3200+
a7n8x-e deluxe
1gb kingston valueram
radeon 9800 pro>xt
seagate sata 80gb barracuda
seagate 20gb ide

Do I just have a ##itty psu or could my xt mod be making problems?
insight? thanks

You need to check the voltage with a multimeter. Don't trust any software to give you an accurate voltage reading.

BTW A generic PSU is the worst thing you can have in that system. I would dump that PSU, and get a name brand PSU.

damn it looks like you have just about the most enviable system you can get within reason. btw how's the truepower500? I want the truecontrol really bad, but it costs a poopload. are there any solid psu's like the antec --power's that aren't too loud?

I had the True Control 550. I returned it for the one in my sig. The plain True550 has higher amperage on the rails.

Plus you really don't need adjustable rails.

Measured with a voltmeter 100% CPU load (Prime95)
5v rail @ 5.00
12v rail @ 11.97

That's about as close as you're going to get on the rails.

If you're interested in Antec, the True430 is Antec's best value. A True430 will have no problem powering your rig through several upgrades.

I don't know why you are comparing it to a 430 watt PSU, it's a 550 watt PSU

Hey thanks guys. the 430w sounds good. I wasn't sure what to think of antec's lesser wattage psu's so I focused on the nice expensive ones. btw, how's the pow max demon 580w? just wondering. oh and thanks ribbon13 for the links and everyone's help
