Voltage Loss

I'm considering PSU options for my upcoming i7 build. So I decided to do some reading on PSUs. Some guides talk about voltage loss when it comes to using modular PSUs. Can anyone explain ?

Complete red herring. The increased resistance of having modular connections vs. completely hardwired power supply output wiring is so insignificant, it should be considered insignificant.

JonnyGuru tested the FUD surrrounding modular connections about 3 years ago and this pretty much summed his testing up completely:

Someone once said that a modular connector's pins have as much resistance as two feet of wire. I can't recall where that came from, but I think our five subjects have shown us that there's actually as much as four times as much voltage lost in a mere 18 inches of cable than there is in a modular connector.

You can read the entire article/test at this link: Modular Power Supplies: The Reality of the Resistance.

LOL....yeah, the source I recall for most of that type of thinking was a PSU company that refuses to make modular PSUs so go figure.

and PSUs with larger than 80mm fans.

*cough* PC Power and Cooling *cough*

Surprised they haven't suggested that you cut off all of your plugs and solder the wires directly to your motherboard and components.

I'm pretty sure there are molexes on the Space Shuttle. And lots of other types of power units in the world transfer power thru terminated connections so it will probably be OK for a PSU eh?

Only if PC Power and Cooling says it is ok...😉
