Voltage is going up and down on my A64

Ever since i got this A64, my voltage likes to go up and down a lot, not sure if that's normal. Though now i'm running at 1.65 voltage, and it changes a lot from 1.64, to 1.72, which i don't like because it doesn't feel safe. Cool and quiet is disabled. So why's it doing this? Is it normal?

It also shows my Core Speed and HTT increase and decrease in small increments

I have the latest bios as well.

Not really, it's an Antec 350w. Don't have a whole lot in my case, but i used to have 4 more hard drives, and it still ran fine.

Well, a psu can support a system and still be instable. Antecs are good, but you may be stressing it a little too much.

are you running Cool'n'Quiet?

it lowers the CPU voltage and clock speeds when doing less powerful activities. I konw my voltages go to 1.09V to 1.50V

Check your PSU with a volt-o-meter. Then tell us what the readings are. Either that or check in the BIOS. Powerspikes are not good and generally represent a cheap PSU or a dieing PSU.

Also pay no attention to Felix.

Volt-o-meter? Is that like a program? =p

In the original post i mentioned that Cool and Quiet is disabled. It might be reading them incorrectly, it IS a DFI board.

I had a 300A, a PII 266, a Celeron 700 fail on me so far. No AMDs died on me yet.

So what you are saying, Felix, is that a CPU can cause the power being fed to it to be unreliable? Hmm.....

sounds like someone has a cheapo psu...

I was thinking cheapo cpu. 😉

I think you missed the front page article for today...

I dont need no stinkin articles to know that! I had two die on me! :|

"I installed 2 amd cpus upside down, covered totally is AS5 and they didn't work! So now I devote my life to trying bring AMD down! They don't know who they're messing with! I'll go about badmouthing as uninformed and childish as possible, not looking at benchmarks, not looking at data that says Intel's new $1000 cpu is outperformed by AMD cpu's costing a quarter as much! Not acknowledging that Intel themselves apologized for producing such a crappy new p4 core, not understanding that competition is good for all end users, not knowing a good cpu from a pop tart. Yes, I am felixDeKat, and hear me roar AMD!"

Sounds like the same reasoning a child uses when they get pissed at their parents for not getting him malibu barbie for christmas.

haha....

For the OP...yes small vcore fluctuations are normal; however, it sounds like your PSU might be about at its limit.

sorry, don't mean to start a flame war, but I really just don't want someone trying to help another person with a problem by saying extremely biased and wrong information. I could care less about what felix's opinions are, but please, don't try to help people with their problems anymore if your gonna be like that. This is supposed to be a civilized place where people can help eachother, and yes, offer opinions also, but just know when to keep opinions to yourself and when to be an adult. Just ask yourself if your reply contributes to the thread at all. And yes, I realize I am not now, but I have already contributed to this thread earlier, and stick with my comment that your just stressing your psu too much.

Gnoad, I wasted a fx53 on a a64 for board. The problem is asus and msi made there first boards without triangles to align them, and drilled holes in a perfect square, so unless you were realy lucky or removed the socket and looked for the last pin , you were screwed

Did you get that Gonad? The AMD chip is screwed, and so are you. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Aren't you supposed to just drop the chip into the socket, and if it drops right in, you've put it in the right way?

.....Huh? Seriously, how old are you? And seriously, I know cpus are delicate, but even if you set it on wrong, it won't go down, and I hope you aren't applying force until it drops down. Setting it on wrong won't hurt it. Pushing it will. The triangles definitely make the job easier, but seriously, its not that difficult. And even then, its not AMDs fault. I'm just getting fed up with the uninformed comments. I have nothing against Intel, but they really did make a big mistake with prescott, and all these issues that are now coming up just show me that they were full of themselves and didn't really think to much. Hey, do you work for Intel felix?
