I think I may try volt modding the RAM on my GTs right now.

Just to see what I can get with it.

If I use the pencil trick I can erase it to get the original resistance back right?

C'mon guys I need some help!

I'm using an eVGA 6800GS as my guinea pig.

According to VR-Zone, the 6800GS has the same mods as the 7800GT.

So far I am not having success. After pencil tricking the core and memory, Coolbits actually detects my optimal frequencies as lower than before (518/1.18). I removed both pencil tricks and Coolbits now autodetects the GS at 530/1.23 ???

What the ef? I followed the guide and confirmed the resistances with a multimeter?

Anyone who's actually tried it that can give me some insight?

EDIT: This is Matt2 on my neighbor's laptop. My comp is down right now while messing with the GS.

What cool bits says and what is actually your OC can be two different things I guess. Try testing with 3dmark/games and see if you get artifacting.

I did. It fails the overclock test at the same speeds as before the mods.

Bump.

The 6800GS failed to gain anything from the volt mod. I dont know if I did something wrong or if the memory was just crappy.

I also helped Volt Mod Pr0nMaster's BFG 7800GT and now his 7800GT runs 522/1380 with the 1.5v BIOS mod and now the pencil trick mod for the memory.

Anyone do this with GT SLI?

I am just afraid of the heat issue. I dont wanna fry my purdy GTs!

I'm using an NV5 Silencer and the eVGA stock CO HSF. Think this is adequate cooling for just the memory mod?

Was it you ElFear?

I have the same card as you Matt. I've picked up the rheostats to start volt modding my card. A 10K and a 5K. I'm waiting on my Thremalright V1 Ultra before I do the mod. I'm not sure if you can do the simple .1v and .06v increases with the stock cooling. You could give it a try. I don't seem to get over 60 in ATi tool running 500/1200. That's not much of a voltage increase for the memory. I say go for it.

Umm, what? That makes no sence. And I have yet to mod my card. I was using the monitor in ATi tool, but nvMonitor MBM and CoolBits all say the same. Upping the volts would in no way cause the temperature to read lower.

See what you can do overclocking it first. I was thinking about volt-modding mine, but I can do 515/1220 with normal volts!.

mine are running 500/1190 right now with no volt modding at all. They will do up to 515/1200, but I get artifacting after about 25min of COD2 or FEAR with the memory at 1200.

I guess I'm spoiled, but my 7800GT came stock at 470/1200 for some reason.
