Like building SUV's that cause them to nearly go bankrupt and forcing a government bailout?

This doesn't hold any water whatsoever. Those SUV's made them so much more money over the previous 30 years than it cost them to overproduce in 2008-2009.

Who except Marty McFly would be able to walk into the boardroom and say "I know it's our biggest money maker both past and present, but I think we should halve production this year, what do you think?"

There's a lot of blame to spread out among management, but it was those Suburbans/Tahoes/Envoys/Trailblazers/Yukons that kept them afloat for the 10 years previous to 2008.

Well, the Volt is not really for saving fuel. It's for looking trendy and green, and that's priceless.

Pretty much on point. Its for those idiots over at Beverly Hills who think buying a Prius will save the earth (while their 5000 sqft mansion will take an impressive amount of energy to cool down from the California heat). This car is such a marketing hoax. And remember the Volt "230 MPG" banner? What happen to that? ( http://www.hybridcars.com/fuel-economy/chevy-volt-230-mpg-rating-what-does-it-mean-25986.html )

Now, this is an official 5 pages thread about a pointless "green" vehicle.

All this crap remind me of George Carlin's speech on saving the planet.

I remember there was an episode of 3rd Rock where the family decided they would be the statistical average American family. They were going to get a new vehicle and couldn't decide whether they wanted an SUV or a minivan 😀

It has also been pointed out numerous times that the "lol american gas guzzlers" argument is false because the top selling vehicle is still the Ford F150. That's a full size truck.

Equinox/Terrain are a far cry from Tahoe/Suburban though.

My point is that they are still selling SUVs (regardless of size). And yes, having able to use govt funding to cake walk a bankruptcy help. What brought down GM was their bloated pension liabilities and less so with not selling enough cars like Chevy Cruzes.

Equinoxes and Terrains are what they are selling by far again because thats what the buying public wants. UAW and Big auto went hand in hand down that road and not the only industry crippled by it.
Its hard to turn a huge conglomerate around and bankruptcy was probably the blunt instrument needed
