Volcano 6Cu+ & P4 1.6a: Ok? Not Ok?

I think my ignorance just cost me $18.

I went by a store about 25 miles away to pick up a tube of Artic Silver II. While I was talking to the tech, he asked about my heatsink/fan. I told him that I planned to install the retail heatsink and fan. I then inquired if he had something in stock that would be better. He sold me a Vocano 6Cu+.

I just got back into the office and was reading the side of the box (and went to Thermaltake's website). It appears that this heatsink/fan is for P3's.

Did I just blow $18?

Side of the box on mine says it'll only run p3 to 1.13 and tualatin up to 2 ghz. I don't remember which one the tualatin is. Someone should be able to answer this for you.

Tualitin is the new P3 that is often used in laptops.

I thought P4s used a new sort of heatsink mounting mechanism? Will it even fit on the socket?

is it worth 18 bucks to you to drive back and bitch the guy out for selling you the wrong hsf? If it were me, I'd do it. Plus that thing is loud as hell, 39dba and 7000+ rpm fan, loud, high pitched and whiny. I wouldn't recommend that thing to anybody. I just replaced mine after having it for 2 weeks.

I got ripped. Ultimately it's my own fault. I should have done my homework.

I'm not sure if it's worth it or not. I thought about ebaying it; however, they seem to be going for <$12.
