VOIP Questions

I'm wanting to try Vonage out & have some questions about the set-up. I have a D-link cable modem going to a 4 port Netgear wireless router which serves 2 comp's on cat5 & 2 wireless. As I see it I can put the voip adapter ahead of the router (between the modem & router) or come out of the router to the adapter(since I have 2 unused cat5 ports), is that correct? Would the latter cause problems with the wireless portion? I do some on-line gaming & wonder if adding this service would hurt my internet speed (ping times). I've seen some adapters that have a router built in & some don't & found mention of some that have a pass through. I'm a little unsure as to what would be the best for my situation. Any input is very appreciated.

Yes, either way works.

No, unless you have tons of traffic transmitting at the same time, then you may experience jitter on the phone. The data portion should be fine.

Make sure dlink vonage is not a gateway which has a DHCP. If it does, then disable DHCP from netgear router. You will still able to use wireless function from netgear when netgear will not act like a gateway. Dlink LAN to netgear LAN CAT5 wiring is a correct setting when both units has DHCP feature. Speed of your connection really depends on what you do, or router has QoS or not!

Thanks for the replies, I'm just trying to make sure I get the right hardware & least problematic or restrictive config figured out before signing on.
