www.acanac.com - $9/month, local number, unlimited can/us calling.
I just got in on a free trial promo they were doing for the first 500 people to sign up, very happy so far...
Just pick up an unlocked PAP2 on eBay for $30-40 and hook up your analog phone to it (or your house's wiring...) or you can use the soft phone for free.
Is that this company?

Yes. Apparently their DSL service is pretty weak, but I've had very little trouble with the VoIP. They are right about the support though, if there's something wrong, you're screwed. I hope you like boiler-plate FAQ-link responses to your support tickets.
On the bright side though, seriously, the service is great. Very clear calls and so far very reliable.
Have 500 people signed up yet? If I sign up, can I use you as my referral?
I like that it's cheap and month to month vs prepaying for years at a time.
Ross, I think the $9/month rate only applies if you agree to take a year of service, but they have a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Otherwise I believe it's $15/month Unfortunately the free trial was for Canadian customers only, and only the big cities at that.
YHPM re: referral
Ah ok, thanks. Can you post a non-referral link to their web site.
Can you start out monthly and then switch to annual?
As I said before, www.acanac.com. You can start out month to month and go on a 3/6/12 month commitment at any time as far as I understand.
