I just found out they have voip service in Hong Kong. right now, they are offering this service first 3 months free, no contract, no credit card required. the monthly service is roughly USD $6/month. this is what happen in a free market.

right now, I am given a HK phone # that I can call anyone and they can call me back. I do have some friends in hk, so it is working great for me

I'd love to get a US based VOIP then move to Australia taking my Oregon 503 phone number with me.

Which is the service provider? Do they provide service to other asian cities?

I don't think there'd be much of a problem? There'd be a bit of lag maybe, but if you had an uber connection down there it should be fine. Unless they block all ISPs outside the US. I'm moving to Canada within a year, I'm planning on keeping my Vonage and seeing what happens.

There shouldn't be assuming I have a fast cable or DSL connection. One of my friends has a co-worker who relocated to Italy taking Vonage with him and it works out great. What's funny is it's cheaper to call another European number using his US based Vonage than it is calling Italy to Europe direct.

That's good to know. I currently have a virtual number for Victoria, BC, up in Canada, so that my wife and her family can call me down here without paying long distance. Last month we hit just shy of 2500 minutes ;)...next best thing to me actually being there, although we're working on that.

My parents recently moved and got VoIP as their main phone line. It has lots of features and they enjoy that but I have gotten lots of trouble calling them. They will lose service for hours at a time or the service will disconnect me when I call them. I think once those kinks are ironed out it will truly be great. It has a lot of promise as it is and their problems may be vendor specific.
