Voice Recording

I'm trying to record voice messages on my computer with my headset and I'm not sure how to do this.
For some reason I want to think that WindowsXP Pro has a recording program already installed, is this true? And if not, what program(s) do you use?

Many retail soundcards come with 1 program to do it and just plug the Mic in the soundcard input...You can also get Freeware to do as much...

Audacity is a touch heavyweight for just voice recording; but it is free(both senses) and good stuff. audacity.sourceforge.net

Windows Media Encoder (free from MS) can also do it. I have tested using it for doing tutorials/demos with screen captures. Needs something speed to do it at 30fps with video, but should be ok with audio (to wma).
