Voice Chat Software recommendations.

I want to HOST a voice chat server for some of my friends and myself so we can chat while we play WoW. I've been using Ventrilo and it's been working for us, the only issue is that the public version is capped at 8 users, and we have somewhere near 15. I switched to TeamSpeak for a bit but I just can't stand the tin-can sound, it has no where near the quality of Venrilo (tho I like every other aspect of TS better). Is there anything else I can try that can accomodate at least 20 players with some good quality as well?

You got what I know about. Roumer has it if bandwidth is an issue vent is better. Now you know what I know on the subject.

Have everyone pitch in and get a real version of Vent. The software isn't going anywhere anytime soon, it's like mIRC.

To me it looked like the only options I had were to rent a server or get a personal license, both of which were unbelievably expernsive. Is there another option?

teamspeak if you want a server/client based voice chat
skype for client/client for 5 people or less

i have used vent/rw/skype/ts

Have you tried various codecs in TS? Default codec when you create a channel is abysmally low quality.

Does someone have something setup wrong so that you're getting echoes?

TS has never been an issue for me, I use speex16.x codec most of the time.

I use the speex25.5 or whatever the .x is, and to be honest, ventrilo quality is just far superior.

Only problem with using Either Ventrillo or Teamspeak in WoW is that there are no Mac clients... so unless your guild or group of friends have no mac users it's kind of a bummer. Supposedly Teamspeak3 is coming out later this year and will have Mac clients, but Ventrillo's web site still says they expect Mac support sometime in 2004.. lol... so who knows.

Thanks KoolHonda and Traxis. I downgraded from 2.3.0 to 2.1.4 and now all is well. 🙂 Luckily jdport, we're all PC users. 🙂
